I got my current one from miganglia as a used but serviced unit that had been used at a local college for training purposes.call your local repairers as they may have some used units in stock

I was thinking more of the differences in use. The salesman mentioned that gasless was better in the wind but didn't say why gas was preferred in the workshop, only that it was.

Never used gases wire but I would guess every time you run a bead with gases you have to clean the slag off after, like stick. With gassed you don't, so quicker in the workshop.

I also run an R-tech TIG and plasma cutter, must be about 8 years old now and still going strong. There customer service is second to non.
Snap, have an R-Tech AC/DC Tig and one of their Plasma cutters, never had an issue in a similar length of time. Have a couple of Murex Mig's 250 and 450 that have been here almost as long as I have, great welders but getting a bit long in the tooth now so have just bought an R-Tech 450, yet to unbox it but certainly dont expect any issues when I do.
And as you say the service is 1st class, delivery promt, I cannot comment on their repair service as I havent needed it (yet!)

I have a Clarke 160tm which I got 3 or 4 years ago to repair a landrover. It does a great job and can even manage larger projects about the farm

Let me know what you think of the 450 once you’ve taken it for a spin, I’m thinking of getting something a little bigger for heavy jobs. Is it 3 phase or single phase inverter? Thanks.

Talking to the guy who makes the r tech tables last week, he said the r tech stuff is all Chinese , that said, it’s the very best of Chinese, with their own people out there doing quality control. I can process to have ever used r tech equipment, from what I’ve heard from people I know who have them it’s pretty good. With good duty cycles.

3 phase, all my Mig's are 3 phase. Will do when I get it out the box although currently not in a hurry as am still using my Murex Mig's.

I bought this SIP inverter mig recently and it seems real sweet to use so far. That said I haven't used it in anger yet. Cost about 1100 euro.

Another vote for R Tech.

As noted above, they are made in the Far East, but very good quality and distributed all over the world under various brand names.

The backup from R Tech is excellent, can't rate it highly enough. Maybe not necessarily the right brand for continuous use in a manufacturing environment, but for anything else I can't imagine you'll find a better product or backup for the money.

I run a second hand fronius trans plus synergic. It is the best welder I have ever used bar none. These welders are serious money money new. However I bought it second hand for roughly the price of some of the new ones suggested on here. I know which welder I’d rather have!

Totally agree fronius are amazing machine. Get a cost for a replacement circuit board which do go if the have a power serge. Cost more than 2 new sip machines or r tech machines. But fronius are phenomenal.

Only on single phase here, what's the highest amp mig available on single phase??
Use a 200 amp presently, wondered how much higher you can go, successfully

Think some are up at 400 amp now with the right class breaker. Think I saw swp doing one up around there on 240v frightening the draw on that!

@Deutzdx3 i paid less than £800 for mine, I am happy to take the risk of an issue with a circuit board, I have some really good electrical engineers locally that I reckon would be able to test and repair a circuit board should,I require. The consistent arc, increased penetration, and userbality of the machine is henominal!
