Currently looking at tree shears to go on our Hitachi ZX25 2007, which is fitted up with breaker pipework ideally something that would fit this current digger and expandable right up to an 8 ton machine.

Any recommendations welcome.

If you've only got a breaker circuit you will need some way of reversing the flow, unless it is dual flow already of course. There are people out there who supply electrically controlled valves that allow you to switch the flow from the cab.

I would recommend the style like the JAK one above, two crab like claws pulling inwards onto a fixed blade. Its the most versatile option IMO, it allows you to grab large amounts of hedgerow brushwood as well as larger single stems, grab big clumps of briars, pull out wire, pick up branches and move them around etc etc. I've found with mine you can even clean a ditch out pretty well as you go along, the claws will grab even quite wet and sloppy material if you drop a bit of brushwood in with it to give the claws something to hold on to. You can also use the claws to dig into the ground a bit and pull roots out.

Be carefull with a cut and hold style on a mini, sure you'd soon get the knack of it but one ambitious branch and you'll tip over at a hell of a rate! I like the exac one scissor style for a mini, should allow you to cut larger stuff safely and you can always use it to pick up off the floor

I’ve got a Tmk 200 on a 3.5t and think it’s fantastic. Had the side mount on the mounting bracket to cut side branches also. You can use it to grab branches on the floor already and pick odd bits or scrape the floor with claw but takes a knack to just pinch them just enough.
After reading about the two claw type I think that could be a much more useful tool. Since having the tmk I haven’t stopped thinking about a claw just for loading branches, pulling posts etc etc. I do feel you’d benefit from a hydraulic twist if your machine can handle it as often times side branches are not always quite the right angle however the tmk kind of pulls the branch in until it cuts anyway.
Definitely have a demo of both types I would say but as for tmk you definitely wouldn’t be disappointed with it’s performance however the two claw may prove more useful by the sound of it.

I have a bucket warehouse 060 on an 8t and it’s a fantastic bit of kit.

I like the claw style as it will do 6 inch stuff but also grabs at hedges just as east and you can grab stuff out of ditches etc I donmt really have a need to do massive stuff with the shear as it’s mainly hedge work and overhanging branches. So can always take the pole saw to anything 8-10inches

If I pick up a big 30ft long branch I can make my 8t a bit unstable but it is amazing to watch it just grab it at the bottom and lift it vertical
