Which moisture meter?

We have an old Protimeter which has given great service (it'll be 30yrs old now) but it gets a bit further out each year, to a point its not really good enough any more.

I'd like to measure bushel weight, moisture and temp as loads come in, as easily as possible, without needinga mortgage to pay for it.

It seems there's lots of choice, from a few hundred quid to 5 or 6 grand.

Value more important than cost, but don't want to spend more than £1500 if I can help it

Thanks for your help

My suggestion would have to be a re conditioned Marconi for the grain store as you cant beat the repeatability and accuracy, a thermometer, a 1000ml measuring cylinder and a set of kitchen scales for measuring the hectolitre (proper weighing kits are available) and a hand held moisture meter such as a unimeter for the field. All bases covered and still well under budget.

I’ve been looking at one of these but may be a little over budget!

I think they do a manual option as well which was around £1200 last time I enquired.

I have refurbished Marconi Meters available for sale if you are interested and the price will be a lot lower than the figure you mentioned.

Others can speak about reliability, ruggedness and repeatability of the Marconi Meters - I am a bit biased :).

Please PM me if you are interested.

Wile 78, grinds/crushes sample, appears accurate and repeatable, calibrated for about 20 different crops including grass seeds of varying types which was my original motivation for buying one six or seven years ago. If I lost or broke it I would just buy another.

Does it do bushel weight too Michael?

Always interested in options, do you have one that will do moisture, temp and bushel? Thanks

Mini GAC and Wile 200 look very similar but very different prices. Is the Dickey John GAC worth the extra money?

Dickie John mini GAC is no good for hand rub as you need a big sample.
I also find it to be much more variable in reading dried grain or recently rained on as it is a whole grain sample. I use it for beans mainly.
Been using a protimeter for many years without issues. Use a coffee grinder for OSR and use the hand one for cereals.
