We had one too. It was pure rubbish. It couldn't drive over even moderate stones without the sump being hit. It was unreliable and just plain nasty as a farm pickup. As a general pickup for a tradesman I dare say it was fine apart from rust and bits falling off and the nasty gearbox inside the engine sump and the wand-like gear lever and brakes that hardly existed.

Loved ours I was allowed to drive it occasionally it used to break down a lot but then all the cars we had did then

Just changed up from my 2.5 dmax Utah to a 3.2 ranger wildtrak auto... think they are upgrading the rangers and fitting transit engines... I had a great deal on a stock one.... 4000 miles so far and so good. Just a bit heavy on Adblu

Forget the hilux!
Done nearly 11k miles in a 19 plate invincible X auto .. the engine is gutless, whiney and thirsty. I mean sub 20mpg thirsty ! Fuel tank is too small (£75 to fill ) so you literally live in the petrol station.
Gearbox holds onto a gear for an eternity before deciding to change up, then downhill it tries to change down to 2nd so the engine whines so loud you think it’ll explode ..
Use low range and it constantly beeps, so much so that it’s preferable to get stuck than listen to it ... it randomly surges to 1200rpm on Tickover for no reason at all. The fuel cap release is annoyingly close to the bonnet release and not illuminated so most trips to the petrol station (twice daily) include either squinting in the footwell or inadvertently opening the bonnet ... it drinks ad-blue by the gallon ... parking sensors beep constantly and the you can’t swith off the rear ones so when you have a trailer on and reverse it beeps so much your ears bleed ...

That's disappointing but worth knowing. Is yours faulty or are they all like that? Its not like Toyota to sell a pup, even though they obviously send us the inferior engine when the engine from the Land Cruiser is fitted in other regions. Having said that, they have had some major issues with their DPF on the larger more powerful engine of late.

You must be unlucky @Guy see pic .ive seen more than that too.got a young neighbor who averages 25 but he thrashes his everywhere.agree about holding on gear between 5/6gear though.on my third mk 8 and no troubles like you have.i know bonnet and fuel cap realise is side by side but just grab correct one.mine beeps in reverse with a trailer on but can turn that of by button on right hand end of dash.economy drops to mid to high 20s towing 2.5 ton digger.tank of add blue lasts 9/10k too.i stick to 40/45 towing and rarely exceed 60 either.maybe you got a bad one

Hate our 18 plate hilux as well, ours is a manual, mpg is 26 at best, completely gutless, brakes are terrible, and generally really disappointing.
To put it in to prospective the 08 plate Navara it’s replaced, was better in every department by a long way and it’s 10 years older.!! ( a part from the chassis probs that never effected us, traded in on time)

Is yours the newest one with the facelifted bumper? Is it much different if so to the pre face lift do you know? I have a test drive on one next week. Manual not auto. Hate jap auto boxes.

Yes it’s the one with the new front on it.far more refined than my previous year old one too.feels more powerful too despite being the same hp aswell.rides better too.my 2017 one was not the best but they are improved all the time.only getting 10mpg on that to start with but faulty temp sensor was reading minus 40 so putting more fuel not motor.fine after that.

I bought a new Ford Wildtrack with automatic box and love it. Plenty of genuine grunt when towing and drives like a car. It replaced my Isuzu 3.0 and my BMW X5. No regrets. But here is the best bit; As a NFU member I had 15% off the list price and then 10% off with Ford which made it cheaper than a 2 yr old with 30k miles.

Love the amorak but it’s too good as a work truck. Watching the grand tour when they did pickup testing with the ranger, vw and merc it wasn’t good when they had to use a strap to straighten the back tray on the merc to get the tailgate to close! Build quality looked a bit lacking. The ranger came top then. I have a Hilux and really like it and would have another.
aye but they aren't running them for 10yrs.
