Always amuses me criticism of seating position in a hilux. It may not suit everyone (clearly) but all everybody wanted was for pickups to be a bit more car like to sit in and when there is one that is nobody likes it.
I dont find it bad at all but I am tall so don't notice being sat lower.
I did demo a Ranger some years ago and it felt huge compared to a hilux .
Perhaps some people like the idea of driving a tank like vehicle.:)

Nothing is trouble free. The higher used value of HiLux is down to the very limited numbers they sold new. It certainly isnt down to their seating position, style or ride comfort. They are probably above average for reliability but local ones to me have had their fair share of big bangs over the years
Nothing wrong with the seating in the later, newer Hiluxs, I've tried DMAX and Ranger and they are much the same, in terms of comfortable seats

Not immune to other and less severe faults but they can be v expensive to sort. Trouble is there's a fine line between cutting your losses with a ford when the engine goes bang and it's second hand value as a runner means it's not worth fixing and having to spend a fortune fixing a vw to limit what you stand to lose selling it as a none runner. There's good and bad in all and luck involved too.

My mates 12 plate Amarok has cost him a fortune, many times more than my old D40 Navara cost me despite mine having a far harder life compared to his.

Last year it had a fuel pipe split and deposited the contents of the tank in Macdonalds drive thru

If you want to pull heavy trailers buy the ford as It’s very very good at dragging heavy loads about behind it. Get the auto box cos it makes towing effortless

besides who wants a clutch and make work stick nowadays?

the 3.2 motor some folks say is agricultural but I like the noise it makes wen it kicks down and pulls.

but from the other pickups I’ve rode in in recent times there all pretty good really.
