Which Pedestal system?

From our experience pedestals only really cool the grain & don't dry it. 2% reduction in moisture would be great if only it was true! Unless we are doing something wrong.
I must be doing something wrong too then.
Good to keep 17/18% grain sweet for a month or two until you can get it to the drier though.

They are more for cooling than drying IMO - never really dried with them but you can get heaters fur the fans that I'm sure would help along with some smart fan control via rh and temp sensors

Got to agree really, when granddad blew air into the corn bins it never dried it, just kept the grain right. Which is what we are looking for really!

Has anyone experienced the poly type 1s necking over if there is a bit stuck up out of the heap (edit: with a fan sat on top)? A place I worked had this problem but I'm not sure if it was idiots error rather than design?

We have 4 Martin Lishman 3m towers and 4 APM, I prefer the seration design of the apm 1s as iirc you can use them for osr without the hessian sleeve (we didn't store our own osr this year so cant be definitive)

We have 1 dual direction fan per 4 towers spaced 3m apart which has worked well, the bigger dia 1s can be up to 5/6m apart I think, this year I would like to make more use of them for cooling the grain to reduce the time it spends in the drier. I agree with the OP and would rather solid floor as it can double up as general use when the grain is out, I think larger units with dedicated storage don't necessarily have this problem

Mine are made of twin wall pipe, so I think you'd struggle to get them to neck over unless the whole column was put in very badly.

Polycool ones do neck over although sturdy & stable at the base. I opted for Lishman ones instead as I liked the control panel. Doubt you'd get more than 1% mc out of the grain without piles every 6m as airflow isn't enough. You need airflow over the top of the heap to stop the damp warm air recycling into the heap. I have an inlet at one end of the shed & an extractor fan controlled by the Lishman panel at the other end pulling cooler outside air across the heap. Haven't had a bug problem in that shed since.

I'm looking to get some pedestals for this harvest, are there any any recommendations on which make. I've read through this thread, but being 3 yrs old I thought things might have changed.
We'd be looking at 8x10ft and probably 4 fans if they're not too expensive.

I find that pedistals reduce the mc of grain at 16 % so the heap has no claims
this may be due to some of the grain being under 15 on the day of harvest
but if it is 16 and grain temperature is 25 c or higher the pedestal reduces it if it is on a 5 degree diferential controler

I do not put grain through the dryer unless it is over 16 % at harvest and have very few allowance claims

the the shed is already built then pedistals are a good option
if the floor needs cancreting then the lishman under floor pedestal would be a good option as the cool air is vented outside the store reducing ventilation problems

Got some pre season offers on pedestals and fans

Standard pollycool is 3.5m (nicely over 10ft) and £138.50 each

Standard Metacool 3.5m £112.00 each

Fans to suit either from £168 spec dependant - most common choice is vb7 at £228

If you prefer metal over plastic then the metalcool we supply are much better than alternatives, they have a slotted hole that increases air flow and removes the need to use a hessian sock in small crops like OSR

Pm if you want more detail
