Which variable baler and wrapper?

I have an Vicon 2190 bale pack that I'm considering upgrading. What baler and wrapper combination should I be looking at? What are people's experiences good and bad?

I would say I had a Mchale fusion vario on demo last year. I was not impressed. It turned up did 15 bales and had a bearing go and caught on fire. Then when they fixed it I found it didn't make a nice bale especially when chopping. There was some things I did like but just as many I didn't.

So thanks in advance for the advice.

My old boss out in Sweden (@axehandle ) ran some very nice kit. His baler was a john deere 744 premium the first year i was there but for the next couple of years it was, and i think it still is, a c440r. I wouldn't say i was john deere biased but this thing was a weapon!! Had only 1 breakdown in 3yrs which was just a loose bolt from a pulley which we don't think had been checked from dealer before delivery. Otherwise, flawless!! We even pitted it against the Krone non-stop and in the same crop, it was 2-3bales faster than the non-stop!! The only thing i would like to see JD add is a steering axle to the rear axle. Otherwise, after 3 seasons and some really heavy cropping, fantastic machine and very user friendly!!

Getting rid of a mchale vario fusion , been nothing but trouble only 25k bales and spent thousands on it ! Going for kuhn combi instead, better dealer back up
Had enough of the mchale , one I had before fusion 3 was faultless

The Kuhn is based on the Vicon I have now with the same 3D wrapping system. They have obviously modified bits on it to try and improve it. Have you had one on demo? Roughly how did it compare price wise to the mchale?

Couldn't get a demo before I bought it but spoken to someone who's running one and they changed from mchale to the Kuhn
Kuhn was £5k cheaper then fusion plus , that's the Kuhn with film on film and isobus ready

My aim is to try the Kuhn and new Vicon flexiwrap this season. Maybe krone worth a look? Trouble I have with Mchale none of the local dealers wants to sell a fusion and they one that brought the demo last year really fell out with them because Mchale didn't want him to fix it. Any body know if pottinger has the impress combination out and about yet?

Is that a full size Kuhn combi or the little combi bio?

I've got a krone wouldn't look to change anytime soon.
IMO one of the best balers on the market!. Especially good for baling chopped silage, bales in all conditions with no problems. And all crops, I've baled everything from chaffey wheat straw, pea and Barley whole crop silage, rape straw, and short green wet grass in November, doesn't seem to turn its nose up at anything you put into it, if it goes up the pickup a excellent solid bale will come out the other end every time.
I tow a hs2000 around behind mine.
The only downside to them imo is they are quite a big baler and I think that I would definitely spec my next one with the twin axle option, that's if the hs2000 drawbar will accommodate it?.

How do you get on when baling on sideland ground with the wrapper on the back? a contractor near us tried it several years ago, they switched to a combi bale/wrapper after 12 months because of issues.

No problem so far, the krone has a forced bale ejection ramp on it. So even pushes them on the wrapping arm going down hill on slopes, going across slopes I very occasionally put the wrapper loading arm into trailed mode to square them up. (that's only on side slops with gutters in the mix as well)
It's not a problem at all. The secret is setting the drawbar up properly on the wrapper and getting the distance between the loading arm and bale kicker spot on.
I've seen quite a few hs2000's sat to far back from the baler, and then operator's wonder why they get a bale stuck in the middle! Or roll out the side. :scratchhead:

Pleased it works well, as they don,t make the hs 2000 anymore, which would be the best wrapper today do drag behind a baler, thinking kuhn or the mchale orbital. thinking of going down this route because i still do just wrapping jobs and this way you can un hitch from baler and put back behind tractor and its a lot cheaper.

Having run a v660 for a lot of bales I’d be happy with a fusion one. The new JD in vario format is a good option. Have seen good bales out of them through a gowell wrapper. Have also heard horror stories about changing belts but meh that’s life.
Welger make a good baler but not many sing the praise of the wrapper. Too many sensors and moving parts.
Krone is the poor cousin around here. No one has one. But that’s probably to do with the dealer.
