Which waterproofs?

After my third day in a row getting absolutely soaked to the skin I’ve decided to bite the bullet and get some decent wet weather gear. Been looking at the kiawaka bib and braces and jacket, they’re very expensive but only heard good things about them. Our local branch agri store now have betacroft in stock they are still pricey but a significant saving on kiawaka. They look good, but don’t know anyone who's used them. Any opinions on what to go for. Thanks in advance.

I have had a Kaiwaka Bib n Brace for several years and really rate it. I went to try on coats at a local place last year, who stocked Kaiwaka and BetaCraft. Tbh I couldn’t see much difference for the £50 extra, so I bought a BetaCraft and been happy with it when I’ve worn it (only ever when it’s throwing it down).

If you’re wearing it all day, every day, then there might be a difference (perhaps), but otherwise, save the money.

Betacraft coat here worn over Guy Cotten bib and brace waterproofs. Both do a good job. Betacraft coat has done 12 months so far and still faultless.

My neighbour has bought a Betacraft coat, he does a lot of fencing so is out in all weathers, he said it’s alright, not as warm as he’d like and the cuffs are quite tight.
For really wet weather I’ve got a Stormline coat. I’ve had it a few years now and still 100%. I know I’ve got to wear a fleece with it in cold weather but at around £40 it’s not too painful. The rest of the time I wear a £20 wax coat

I have a guy Cotten jacket and trousers. The trousers is perfect. The jacket will eventually let in rain at the zip if your in rain for hours.

Why do people buy bib and braces? I always just buy the jackets and bottoms.

Is it that the bin and braces don’t fall down as you walk around?

If your bending or on a bike you don't get the gap at the back between coat and trousers. Means you don't need a long jacket to cover the gap that then gets caught on fences/hurdles/wire

The Bib n Brace is plenty to keep you dry in the waist high fodder crops we all grow over here, then just put a coat on if it starts raining heavily.👍

I rarely wear a coat tbh, as I find them restrictive. Decent leggings or bib n brace keeps me dry 90% of the time, but then my system means that I don’t need to spend all day in the pouring rain, so I don’t if I can help it.

Bib and brace are great if you are doing something where you are constantly wet at the front, ie veg picking/packing. Sprouts especially.
I wear Stormline bib and brace when squashing apples. Highly recommended but wouldn't be keen to do anything energetic in them. Had mine 3-4 years and expect the same again.

Military surplus goretex keep me bone dry all day no matter how hard it rains.

I buy what the North Sea trawler men wear and come in dry.

Which ones? Guy cotten are on there but a lot more expensive that Guy cottens own website plus there’s green available on their own website.

Bib & Brace is excellent for keeping you mostly dry, stops the trousers dragging on the floor plus if your tubing lambs you don’t get wet on the chest.

I bought a pair of betacraft leggings start of last winter, thought I’d save a few quid on the kiawaka ones and i couldn’t get on with them so much so I’ve gone back to flexothane and that’s saying something. I found the betacraft extremely big and bulky and quite restrictive and it was giving me a really bad back over lambing until i ditched wearing them. The kiawaka ones do look less weight and not as bulky so would definitely be worth a try.

I've looked at their current catalogue and can't see the ones I have but I have had them a long time. Yes, Gaelforce are expensive but selling stuff to the trawler men and oil companies probably demands the best.

I wore out a pair of betacraft bib and brace between December 12th (got them for my birthday) and mid April last year. The material cracked and wore through on the sides of the knees where my legs bend and then tuned into holes....
Sent them back and betacraft said it was just normal wear and tear and sent them back. I'd have expected them to last a lot longer than they did very unimpressed with them. Still wearing them because they cost so much and just put up with damp patches on my knees for now but will throw them out and start wearing the kaiwaka ones I bought to replace them now he weather is getting worse. They weren't much more expensive in the end either.
