White painted underground clay pipes?

Just to follow up. Today I fitted a valve in the section of line feeding the 2 troughs to the right of the borehole. I started the borehole pump with the valve closed and the discharge pressure was about 8 bar, I then opened the valve and the pressure dropped to 7 bar, even though both of the water troughs fed by this section of line were full And there should have been no flow down that part of the line. This strongly suggestions the leak is in this section of line and I suspect the culprit will be an old fashioned brass compression T joint where the pipe splits to feed the 2 troughs.

Just to confirm I checked the flow into the reservoir using a bucket with the new valve open and then closed, with the valve open and therefore allowing water into the leaking section of pipe the bucket filled in 2 minutes, with the valve closed and no flow to the leaking pipe, the bucket filled in about 30 seconds!! There is obviously a large leak which is logical I suppose, that section of line sees almost full pump discharge pressure is it’s very close to borehole line as it comes out of the borehole so it would really p….. out of a failed compression joint. Annoyingly the area above where the pipe flows has always quite soggy in winter so it wasn‘t immediately obvious the leak was in that area.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestion.
