come on the what do you plough with?

your best achievment to date?

how many matchs per year and which ones?

for me i only plough with comercial set up , 5 furrow reversible(Kverneland).
Started ploughing matches around 13 years ago with a rusty old ransomes 3 furrow reversible. Pulled it out the back of the shed and tried to shin it up. Being on light land this is vitale and took ages. we got there in the end and started to do quiet well. Then took on one of the farm ploughs an old 5 furrow variwidth reversible, now this really started to make a nice job and at the time there was anything upto about 30 commercial ploughs at any match so competition was real good.
Started to win a few local matches was ploughing at around 7 mathces per year then.
In 2002 i was lucky enough to win the Hampshire County Match, I was Reversible Champion! looked into going to the national but sods law that year it was in Penrith about 500 miles from here so never happened
Carried on for a few more years then things changed and not ploughed at a match for about 5 years.
This year might be the time to get back into it,
Always enjoyed a nice ride to a match at the weekend.

I used to attend a fair few ploughing matches but stopped 2 years ago when I started University. Ploughed with a few rigs over time, TEF 20 and Ransome's Robin then upgraded to BMC 9/16 with the same plough. Finally for the last couple of season was a mix between the BMC and robin and MF 65 and TS82 reversible plough. Also for a couple of matches used a Fahr D132L on Ransome's robin again. Preferred my Classic Reversible ploughing to conventional ploughing. Won alot of the Junior ploughing matches in the area and once or twice in the beginners class but the moved away from home to study. My dad used to plough a lot with his MF 65 in the last few years using TS90 or TS 82 and also had a play with 2 Furrow DP8 before then he used to plough with JD D or JD A and trailed plough. I would like to get back into it but lack the time for ploughing matches and transports becoming an issue for matches further a field due to me lacking B+E License.

Ploughman 1963 see the post under brailsford ploughing match

He has been UK National Champion And I am not certain but may also have been world champion, I know he ploughed in New Zealand a cpl of years ago.

Unfortunately I did not quite manage World Champion - but did manage British Champion 3 times. Had a fantastic few years of fun - got to plough in Denmark, Czech Republic, NZ, Sweden and Rep of Ireland and met some fantastic people and made some lifelong friends. Was due to plough in Croatia at the World match last year but I pulled out - havent ploughed for 12 months now due to work commitments (and cost) but would love to have another go in a few years time.

wow 3 ploughmen replied and none of use are currentlly ploughing at matches.
Are there less attending matches now as aposed to 5 years ago?
thanks for your replies hopefully it might push us all to keep these enjoyable events going for the future.

There is a lot of young talent out there - my eldest has ploughed at European level and there is a very useful lad from Lichfield/Derby way who won the YFC class last year at the Nationals. I believe a lad on here from Cheshire now has Ian Wilsons Dowdeswell 2f rev and he should be one to watch now he has a competitive plough. Main obstacle is transport costs!

Season finishes for me tomorrow in St. Andrews. 14 matches around the tayside area this yr. not had much success as didn't get much practice before season started as had to rebuild tractor engine and only got finished at 4.30 the day before my first match.last season I was pushing hard in the heels of my class winner all season but just couldn't quite catch him.

Currently ploughing with a mf fe35 and a ransomes ts64e ( same as a 59 but less point to point clearance) with tcn bodies at 12 inch wide as most matches up have different width classes, instead of vintage and classic.

In the lookout for either a ts59 or ts63 frame if anyone knows of one lying about

Lot of the YFC clubs round here have an annual ploughing match/working play day, think i might have a go next year once i get a decent plough sorted out, there a couple of events what happen with 30 miles of me, think a 1594/ DP8 would be a nice classic outfit?

i do a few local matches, use a mk1 mf65 and a modified ts59 , won 3 or 4 but when i come up against some good uns i dont seem do just as well:( enjoyed modify plough and seeing how it performes is nearly as much fun

Are you really young enough to qualify for young farmers?
i thought more veterains!

I do a bit a 2 furrow reversible match ploughing, I have ploughman1963's old plough. I ploughed for Kildare in the all Ireland the past 2 years, under 28 class. I wouldn't be great by all accounts, need practice and more setting up of my tractor. Its all money in this game. I'm hoping to buy a new plough for next year , just to increase my adjusment and ease of ploughing. Its a great old sport and I have met so many people who U stay in contract with and who are so helpfull with the world of match ploughing.
