It will be an old pit, recovered. You can asphalt thinner than a layer of concrete
We had several lorry loads tipped on the concrete apron in front of our silage pit last year when contractors resurfaced the farm drive. The thin layer which was left on the 40 year old concrete has stuck like **** to a blanket and sealed the worn area. Very hard wearing.

That looks very smart, how did you keep the original concrete base in such good condition?
I'm lucky that the concrete wore quite evenly.
It was a good job when the floor was laid 35 years ago... not too many 'joins', not so many weak spots. Always tried to keep it cleanish. Also it's a small pit so not much scope for traffic beyond reversing in & driving out.
