anyone know of a mineral company that does Loose minerals with ammonium chloride ? been feeding some alkagrain to finish some lambs , bit concerned about high cereal content of feed and stones in ram lambs , just tried binicombes they only do it in the buckets but i dont think lambs would take enough unless mixed in the feed , also a concern using the 3 in1 through summer for finishing the zwart lambs .

Ammonium Chloride would be best included in the feed, and is essential for finishing ram lambs. CNS can formulate a lamb finishing mineral containing Ammonium Chloride, this can be available F/A or I/F. minimum order would be 1/2 tonne, just contact [email protected]

I think Wynnstay advertise them as 'intensive lamb', but I've never seen any in store. If ordered there would be a minimum order I expect.

I’ve got a bunch inside on Alkagrain and mins. Whatever you do, don’t try to skimp on the minerals. I did, as I didn't want to overdo it and risk kidney stones. All the lambs had been bolused at weaning, which should still be providing the main trace elements.
In their second week on it, they were really flying, then I cut the minerals out for a few days and I’ve never seen lambs go back so quickly. I drenched them all with a cheap TE drench, as i’d Seen a few with crusty eyes (Co deficiency?) and put mins in again, and they have taken off again as quickly as they stalled. I have been staggered at the speed of change, and learnt a lesson.

That was just using sheep GP minerals at about 25kg/t, some chucked in with the feed and some in a bucket with a lump of rock salt in the bottom to hold it down, which they are nibbling at constantly. Hopefully they won’t be on it long enough to have issues with stones, and the ration is less acidic than ‘normal’ cereal based diets.
