Who said tine drills can’t handle trash!

Re-drilling my winter bird cover after it failed. Pale persicaria, redshank and fat hen took over. Sprayed off yesterday, drilled today and despite my bum being clenched for the whole time, I managed to drill 2.5ha with only one blockage. Astonished.

Not me. Having the trash/green still standing and rooted does make a big difference though. I have in the past switched drills from discs to tines when drilling on the green because it was blocking the disc drill.

I can see that one very very minor reason to get a trailed drill instead of a mounted one is it allows you to take much better pics of it working from the cab.

It’s actually a screenshot from a video but I couldn’t find an easy way of uploading it from my phone(?)

It did; on the huge heap that I created the first time I drilled it 😂 The first time was into sprayed off last year’s bird food which was all dead and not quite brittle enough and as said above; that was not quite as successful!

I have done it in quite thick cover crops but only when still green and very dry. I tried the day after when it was wet and it didn’t really work

Had a quick walk through the cover tonight; pretty impressed with how it’s coming. Official guidance for drilling date is mid-feb to mid-june but I guess it’s only a recommendation…we should fare much better with this July drilled.
