So had my loader tractor away at the local garage to get some work done on the clutch in middle of may when i got my tractor back noticed the rear window looked very clean on closer inspection found a couple of bits of glass behind the seat so guessed window must of got broke and the fixed it.thought nothing of it till bill came for repair to the clutch plus a new window and bead so called in at the garage to see about it but owner is away till next week so asked the mechanic who did the work and said did the owner of the garage not tell me about (which he didn't) apparently window fell out over night when the tractor was in the workshop.so who should pay for the new glass?

My cheque would fall out by a proportional amount! I wouldn't even bother discussing it. If they want to make fools of themselves, let them take it to court. Makes me hopping mad when they try this one.

Whatever the reason, it happened while in their care so they are100% responsible. I'd also be changing my garage.

Cheat me once, shame on you. Cheat me twice, shame on ME!

If it is a garage you use a bit you will just get it added onto the bill even if you refuse to pay this time.
You will never know the answer as to whether your local man is honest or not but yo can form an opinion.
At the very least they should have rung before fitting to let you decide what to do, not assume you will let them do it.
Which is why I do my own repairs.

Power fold mirror on my car packed up , rang main dealer for a quote, thought it a bit high so questioned price, asked for a breakdown and was shocked to find price included a new mirror lense, which wasn't broken , was told we usually break lenses when we take it apart as it's an awkward job . I informed them it's not broken when it comes in I'm not paying if you break it .
They broke it ,and they paid !

Took my car in for an MOT years ago and ringing up to see if it was ready was told it had failed on missing sidelight, broken headlamp and
dangerous jagged metal on front wing. Turned out the "apprentice" had swerved to avoid a "woman driver" and put it into the carwash - sideways. Did get a courtesy car for a week while they fixed it, oh, and an MOT.
