Just for when the thread is posted for next year asking if they're doable, yes is the answer! No holes in mine except when I reversed into a bale with the telehandler

Thanks not a bad idea about the lime, we cut early tho and normally the grain is less like grain and more like cheese and they arent usually bothered with!Going forward I’d want a line of lime around that to deter the rats because the colder it gets the more hungry they’ll be.
All the same credit where’s its due looks like a top job done so far
I'll see how it goes but am hoping to save them until next year atleastYET !
Sorry but get them eat ASAP!
I hope it goes well, but from experience get them up off the groundI'll see how it goes but am hoping to save them until next year atleast
Thanks, my theory is, I'm feeding about 2 bales a week to some yearlings that were starting to eat their straw (cant afford that at £180/t delivered now! ) so am giving them a wholecrop baling every few days, rats are lazy and would rather nibble at the open bale in the shed next door and sleep in the straw shed...I hope it goes well, but from experience get them up off the ground

Let me know how you get on with the wrap please! We looked into it but they would only go through a merchant and they were only willing to supply an entire pallet, whereas we wanted a couple of rolls to try first!Used Rani repel for ours this year, supposedly detarant to vermin, just not to incompetence with a handler. Got several hundred for sale if anyone's short

Wholecrop for sale?
Any costings?Put wholecrop in a silage pit, the cost of the plastic alone will pay for a clamp.
By my calculations a minimum of £20,000 for the panels and concrete, digging out would probably cost £10,000-£20,000 and then labour on top which again could be an easy £10,000 for a 60x30 pit.Any costings?
But think of the plastic not the capitalBy my calculations a minimum of £20,000 for the panels and concrete, digging out would probably cost £10,000-£20,000 and then labour on top which again could be an easy £10,000 for a 60x30 pit.
It wouldnt work for us as we would waste far too much with secondary fermentation. If we opened our pit we would have to feed everything wholecrop and wholecrop only in order to clear the face fast enough, whereas we can currently feed 2-3 bales a week to whoever we want whenever we want
What sort of lime??? Ground lime, or some burnt lime?
