Have to be careful if peas in mix. I was warned by @Rich_ard.

Drilled ours last week. Peas/barley in with one pass, then ryegrass/westerwolds, red clover put on with grass harrow before rolling.

Been advised no N? Spread 125kg/ha triple 16s on ploughing before drilling .

Good clart of dung which was ploughed in.

If you have heavily dunged it and you have peas and red clover in the mix then I'd probably leave out any N.

Lovely morning for it. Am now conscious for the first time about conserving moisture, not a common problem in my part of NI.

We've put spring barley and oats in and near 10 ton to the acre of bedding muck under the plough would 50 units of nitrogen be enough in anouther week its being sowed 10 days and up for 5

Done the fungicide spray on my spring barley this evening. Hows your spring wheat looking @shumungus ?
Had damage from cutworm on a couple of the dry hills and was dismayed to learn that there are currently no sprays available for leather jackets or cutworm. (Anyone know of any PM me) Then had to sow at the begiining of the week with nitrogen contrary to soil analysis as it was stalling and showing signs of stress (yellowing of leaf tip) also have had an invasion of rabbits. Rabbits are not a very common thing in my part of the world and you would only see the odd one but once the wheat started to leaf they seemed to appear from nowhere and some of them had black and white markings. I have since learned that a local bungalow dweller had a row with his children in the early springtime about the amount of rabbits they had and how they weren't looking after them properly so he decided to just empty the hutches into the surrounding countryside. I think/hope we have caught it in time as I have two talented men on the job who have decimated the bunny population over this past week. So all in all its not looking exceptional but its still in the fight. This is a steep learning curve as I have no experience at all but I am learning. Will get a photo or two tomorrow as I usually walk it on a Sunday.

I had the same problem in a field after grass too. The only solution that I know of is to go out with the flat roller and roll it at night before the dawn breaks. They will be out eating the crop before daylight.
The top dressing of nitrogen will give it a good drive on. Have you anyone walking the crop that will be able to advise you on a spray program. I have a man that comes and walks the crops for me and he is able to give great guidance what to spray and when.
My wheat didnt look great last may either but once it got topped up with nitrogen and sprayed it never looked back. I am in the same boat as regards learning but it does get easier with experience and when you know what to look out for.
