Wholecrop header

Might have some wholecrop to chop, is anyone still using the old Claas combine type wholecrop headers. Not the direct disc ones.

Are they good or are they awful? There's a few 02 models about.
Only got small acreage to do but still want to make a half tidy job.

Thanks
The Chopper man!

Our contractor did a field for us a couple years ago, it did a decent enough job, 17ft with a double knife, went a lot faster forward than I thought it would.

was that champion direct header ? we had one of them & it went very well

Not sure, it had a reel like a combine, iirc it was just boards though rather than tine bars off a normal reel. They still have it and must have bought it in 2002.

It did leave a good clean cut, ours was peas and barley, undersown with irg.

We ran them when using 2 foragers, old class and new holland, both did fantastic job but bit slow, one or two customers were sceptical about us going to disc header! gone to one big forager with disc header now. Still doing a good job and faster

Seems to me the biggest problem on class disc header is the lack of lateral float, either that or the header needs to be wider to slow the forager down.this is in wheat, if the ground is bit uneven you get left with a lot of long stubble.not seen other makes

Or the forager driver should have the common sense to pull the stick back on a rough field to allow for header travel
