I've had an enquiry from a chap a few miles away wanting to buy some or all of my wheat next summer for wholecrop. His proposed arrangement being, I think, that I grow the crop as normal, then we come to an agreed price in the summer for the standing crop based on potential grain value less combining costs.

Not something we've done before; is there anything to be aware of, potential problems etc?

Do you need the straw and payment upfront .
I sold all my winter barley to a local dairy farmer a few years ago and he wanted to pay over 4 monthly payments , which I agreed too as I had some of his heifers in my sheds, but do your research .
