Who's the Boss?

Strange feeling, have been running the business for many years with both my parents allowing me, rightly or wrongly,to steer the business, hold the financial reins with of course consultation with them.
Day before yesterday my Dad passed away following my Mum eight years ago. That leaves me in charge, no longer a partner, a sole occupier for the time being......

I have now no one to answer to,outside the house ? , bar myself, no one to bounce ideas off, no one else to blame for the cockups!

Thanks to both my parents for allowing me to have the reins at such a young age, my two sons, and daughter at some points, are/maybe, involved in the business and I plan to do the same for them, step back and give them the chance to make their own path for the future.

God rest his soul.

All my sympathy for you loss.
It's said that only when both parents have passed away do you really get to be grown up.

Much as every one says sorry for your loss, Dad was 90 and a half, and had health issue for a while.
The last week was not nice for him , but he passed away 10 minutes after my daughter said good night to him for the final time. Like he was waiting for her to go.
Happy release for him tbh.

Sorry to hear about that Sid
they had done the right thing allowing you to have the main "say" in what sounded like a good business partnership, if I have taken your post correctly,
lots don't do this and stay in full control which is a shame as I think it works well
I farm in a business partnership with my Mum and was to an extent thrown in at the deep end when my Dad died but was certainly glad to have Mum to farm alongside and I still am
Go on steady, as Pete said tis a different world when they are gone

@Sid if you’re anything like me you’ll still be asking your Dad for help 19 years after he’s gone. And blaming him for getting you into the job in the first place!

I miss him greatly and there is seldom a day I don’t think of him. Most of my machines have a little decal that says “How’s that Dad?” On them, just to make sure he’s happy with what I’m doing!

When you’re really missing him, think of the good bits. (y)

I don't know how it'll go for you Sid, but my relationship with my dad was such that I'm pretty sure I knew what he'd have to say to most of the things that've come over the horizon at me since.
(he went on when i was 24)
So while I miss him yet, I have seldom felt lacking for his thoughts.
Curiously, it was a wise uncle who went soon after that I've missed more for advice and comment. He still had surprises-for me- in him.

And I well recall an old fashioned neighbour - some decades my senior- who suddenly started calling me 'Mr Egbert' after we planted the old man.
I quizzed him, since we'd been on first name terms all the while. 'You'm the man now bouy'

Good luck.
you'm the man now!
