Why are some dealers utter scumbags!

Regarding help over phone , just make sure they don’t charge you professional advice ,
Yes some ones time has to be paid for , but when you ring about a problem with fert spreader and tractor iso bus not talking to it , ring dealer and get £17 bill for 11 minutes on phone when it’s tractors fault 🤷‍♂️
Never been charged yet ....not by Frank Suttons but was charged by another JD dealer closer to me .....and the advice he gave me was wrong !!!
[/QUOTE]

This is something that bugs me with some "professionals". I get that they can't always get it right all the time but they do seem to charge top whack and yet still charge for incorrect information, misinformation etc.

Had it with dealer mechanics, solicitors and a few others. Often I don't think it helps when the man that does the job and the man that sends the bill are different.

A friend of mine had a complete 2 Stoke engine built by the so called legend Stan Smith, was a lot of money mate put a disposable camera in and ask if they could take a few pics which they didn’t, also to call was a very expensive phone number and to top it off engine seized after a few hours of riding as they never replace a part they should because he’d did specifically ask them to. Even though he wouldn’t have known it needed changing

Bit of a rant.
lad in next village just bought a power Harrow from a dealer in Gloucestershire.
advertised as a 3m Kuhn. All runs up perfectly blah blah blah.
Delivered last week. Turns out to be a 4m which is no good to him. Still got Brown&Co lot no on it.
pto is so siezed they had a tractor on either end to try and pull it apart but wouldn't shift. So no way has it ever been run up or checked over.
that's apart from half the rotors leaking oil.

He rang dealer said he wanted his money back. Dealer said ok but buyer would have to stand the transport back. Which imo isn't playing fair.
Now dealer isn't answering phone or reply to messages.

Nothing to do with me but boils my pee when morons like this are allowed to trade.
Rant over
Same reason that some farmers are utter scum bags , it’s not their occupation it’s their personality.
Some people just have no morals, scruples or self pride about their own reputation or what other people think of them as long as they make a quid out of someone.Lets not pretend for a minute that there are not those among us who will willingly trade in a machine with an known fault but not let on “ as it’s not my problem” once it’s on the truck and given the ratio of dealer to Farmers I would wager that there are far more of the latter on the wrong side of scrupulous .
Dealers get a bad name because of the few bad apples such as the well known “Quality” franchise but there are equally if not more instances the other way that dealers simply do not let on about as it’s seen as “Unproffessional” by Farmers for a dealer to talk about another Farmer or about a particular deal because it’s private but don’t quite have the same professional courtesy when it comes to bad mouthing a dealer .
The fall out from farmers publicly venting ,even if it’s only a one off genuine mistake, can have long lasting implications for a genuine, honest and hard working business .
If dealers posted every faulty ( Full working order honest) trade in on here or the bad payer list on here it would raise some eyebrows I am sure .... but wait ... oh no that just wouldn’t be right would it can’t be talking about farmers they are all saints .

Just an alternative perspective on the subject from experience.
There are good and bad in every business , some just seem to get away with it a bit more than others because there is an entitlement issue because we produce the nations food we are Somehow exempt .

i have to totally agree with you ,i have heard farmers boasting about how they patched up machines before they traded them in , and also its not possible to please everyone, secondhand is second hand and as for warranties dont get me started

He did some work on my motorcross engine about 15 years ago and did a load of welding on it that it didn’t need and didn’t ask me before he carried out the work, and charged a fortune

My mate had massive respect for him and even with the cost was so excited to have him rebuilding his engine.
We all lost a lot of respect for them after that few of my mates had 2 strokes they used to race on track. I certainly wouldn't trust them not sure if hes still around these days.

I used to have a benelli tornado and I cant rate Bennett motorcycles enough they take photos of all the jobs they do and give you a disc and there present on a few forums giving out free advice fantastic company

If selling something I always try and put myself in the position of the buyer.
Probably too honest to ever make money dealing in things, but you can’t be someone you’re not and I would find it hard not to tell a buyer about a fault that I knew about.
Agreed,if I'm px ing something I always tell the dealer if I think there is a fault.Way I was brought up I suppose. In the end it's always the best way as the dealer knows your honesty and it always helps.

Good to hear...we are all here to make a living and profit is not a dirty word for anyone eh! It is a pleasure to deal with some people , when you know they will tell you what’s up with something, they tend to get the best out of a dealer as we are all human, if someone has pulled one over on you, as a dealer are you likely to get parts out at a weekend or lend a machine when that customers has broken...😕

im the same thats why i had to give up selling secondhand machinery

I had a neighbour and baling customer in with me earlier this evening. I sold him a pair of rear tyres at 30% for £150 I had taken off a tractor about 6 years ago and stored indoors since.

I told him if he had a problem with them I’d give him his money back.

I gave him a tenner back too.

I also gave him his last pair of tyres 5 years ago FOC.

I’m not so good at selling things.

Sounds like you robbed him. Tyres were what 10 11 years old. I think I will sell stuff for a fair price until nobody buys it and I chuck it in the bin
