Why are some TFF members so dogmatic in their views?

There are some subjects that are like a red rag to a bull on this place - sprayers (as mentioned), health and safety, haybobs and a few more that evade me at this time of night.

I agree with you - many of us have different applications, businesses, experience - in many cases one size cannot fit all! Very often opposing views can both be valid - why can some folk not accept this fact and just chill?
I am taking the dogmatic view that you are all wrong (unless you agree with me.....)

I think the industry breeds a certain dogmatism at times, and you point out the reason, we all do what seems to work for us, and tend to start to believe that's the only real way for every one, you try selling a ram on it's figs to someone who likes showing:banghead:(n)and I think you will find that I'm right in what I say ! have you ever been on a quiz team with someone who knows every answer, or so they think,, just a cross section of society that suffers from a bit of isolation at times, I know I do. Now just agree:)

I just commented elsewhere that I really work not to be dogmatic, not to enter into degenerative arguments over details and methods.

I guess it's one of those things, with forums, with agriculture, with anyone who went to school - we don't always assume we could be wrong.
Few people actually bother to test what they think they know for validity, and then there's "you don't know what you don't know".

But to go back to your examples, MX7, if we "just mind our own business and the hell with everybody elses business" then it would be a pretty dull forum. I don't give a fig about most of the threads on here but they pass the time and give me a good laugh - especially the dogmatic and deeply entrenched positions.

Nature is chaos and farmers are teetering on the interface between society and nature - the two are miles apart today

A forum without debate and different opinions & experiences would be a pretty dull and pointless place to be.

Heyho, different strokes for different folks I guess.

I don't worry about what I can't control....and I can't control much!

The really blinkered farmers who trully believe their way is the only way wouldn’t enter into debate on a forum, I’ve come across much worse characters in the real world !!

It’s the whole reason a forum exists, as long as it doesn’t descend into personal abuse then it’s all part of the “fun”

And I think everyone’s going slightly mad in the real world at the moment so that overflows into this place...

Nothing wrong with being dogmatic as long as you are not offensive too. I think the overall tone on here is excellent with tongue usually firmly in cheek.
If you ask a binary question (see how that has crept in since Brexit) then there will be more polarised views often depending on bad experiences.
But if you ask what is the best sprayer for 1000 acres of hilly land then.. ......
