Why can’t tractor drivers pull over on the road?

I agree there are some ignorant people out there on the road! But you can’t educate pork. However there are many decent people trying to get about their day-to-day business and it is not fair to make them wait.

Why not? I would suggest that if your time is so precious that you can’t spend a few minutes behind a tractor, you could charge enough for your services to commission a helicopter to carry you about...

Either that, or you could leave the house a few minutes earlier...

What ever happened to those people in vehicles that help the day along ??

You know the ones I mean, there used to be loads of them about !

You would be on a decent bit of road, and you would have the tractor wheels right to the edge of the tarmac, and that’s when these people would come into sight.

They would see a slower vehicle coming towards them, and they would also move over, thus giving plenty of room for those behind you to start passing. Plenty of room on many A roads.

All you seem to get now is them drifting towards you, as if to say this is my side, and I’ll use all of it if I like !

To be fair beef and lamb trade has been good this autumn! But sadly does not run to a helicopter In this part of the world.

I won’t pull over if some arsehole brain dead idiot hangs back or doesn’t overtake when it’s safe I’ve got a job to do too it’s not my fault if they aren’t capable of driving properly, generally I do pull up or tuck right in to the side to give plenty of space must be lucky around here people usually always say thanks
Do go on dual carriageways much out of interest?

I always pull in when I can, even just for 1 car or if I'm about to turn off.

Was involved in an accident a few years ago. Old chap in a BMW overtook me in a daft place and hit a van coming the other way right by my front wheel. Hadn't been on the road for long but admittedly I did pass a layby, but then I wasn't far from where I needed to get to. Everyone was ok, but didn't do much that afternoon!

I no that road well and most of the road is wide enough to be a dual carriageway and the few lay-bys there are have potholes big enough to damage a tractor! I rarely pull over I just drive as far left as possible. The main problem is most car drivers are incapable of overtaking and judging the width of there small car. Ifyou do pull over you then spend years waiting to pull out again and that’s if you can even fit into most passing places in the first place.

The title of this thread should be:
Why DON’T SOME tractor drivers pull over on the road?

The answer is ignorance.

I am carting wheat from my grain store on the A44, just outside Moreton to ADM at Enstone all next week. It is a 12 mile journey and I am doing so with a Fastrac and 16 tonne trailer. I have several long hills I need to climb, especially approaching and through Chipping Norton, which will reduce my forward speed down to approx 10mph. There are several good places for me to pull over and let other traffic by, which I always do when necessary.

But what really annoys me is when there are decent long stretches for following vehicles to pass and they don’t do so, which causes a massive tailback.

Perhaps we should start another thread:
Why are some car drivers so ignorant, that they won’t overtake a tractor when it is perfectly safe to do so?

This is my main problem. They cause far more tailbacks than I do.
As for the impatient buggers that get annoyed with me as a result; Do they not eat?

I pull over when I reasonably can - staying on the road to be bloody minded towards the idiots would make me as bad as them. Yes it's frustrating when you've got a job to do & you need to crack on, but I have decided that life is too short to let the idiots wind me up & ruin it for the others. I'd rather focus on the one cheery wave of thanks than an number one rude gestures etc.

i rekon push bikes are worse than tractors
Hence my reason for starting the thread last Saturday entitled “Which Microphone,Amplifier etc to fit in vehicle to ask cyclists to mover over”. I put the thread in “Workshop Projects”. I still like the possibility of fitting Canadian train engine horn, as can be heard in YouTube video “Canadian Pacific Train Blasting its HORN”.
