Why can’t tractor drivers pull over on the road?

I have just driven between Burford and Lechlade, behind a John Deere tractor and bale trailer. Despite the driver passing numerous places where he could’ve pulled over he just drove past obliviously. People like this really do not help our industry! It is all too easy to forget that other people are also at work, and not just us. I understand that when we are on the road on tractors it gets irritating when people will not overtake you, but if you get two or three nervous driver stuck behind you that will not overtake you will soon create a huge queue. Let’s keep the general public on side and pull over.

The issue is that sometimes, when you have a 50kph tractor [or even a 30kph one], some people just will not overtake even where there is more than enough opportunity to do so, and if you pull in to let these past you find that they go no faster than you were going. Also on very busy roads you can be stuck in a lay-by for five minutes, unable to re-enter the constant stream of traffic.

i rekon push bikes are worse than tractors
Yes some pushbikes will ride side by side or in the middle of the lane, holding traffic at a crawl, oblivious. Also some caravaners are quite unable to drive their units tidily and forget about reversing under any circumstances. Which is probably why motorhomes now seem to outnumber touring caravans. Some of them are no better either.
Then there are the car drivers!

It was very nice during the lockdowns and as it should be, with only me on the road for miles and miles.

Absolutely, I always pullover whenever it's safe and possible. Its just good manners and nearly everyone appreciates it with a wave or friendly tonk.

I regularly drive 20 miles between my 2 farms I pull over as much as I can and often for only 1 vehicle to pass.

I wouldn’t mind having a word with the truck driver that overtook me last night, I think that he was in such a hurry to overtake a tractor that he missed his turn onto the A303, half a mile later I had to wait for him to do a 37 point turn so he could go back. :ROFLMAO:

Cars can be as annoyingly bad - Near us is a 400 + metre 30mph stretch of road with half a dozen 1 metre wide traffic calming cushions and three cars in front the "lead" low slung car was travelling at 20mph and then slowing down to crawl over the bump slipping their clutch as they went (no-one was making any attempt to overtake) - My cruise control was set at 31 mph and I happily passed the lot of them ....
