I am guessing their must be a good reason why you can't home save Hybrid rapeseed , could someone please tell me , rape seed at £250 ton and a 3 Ha pack at £230 ish !!!!! Something stinks I think .
good reason
I think you could. It would grow after all, its just you wouldn't be sure what variety it was (reverts back to parents types) unlike conventional
but do we really need that to be LAW ?
Yes, because farmers know nothing about their own land or best practise, and happily throw their fert in ditches; chemicals down drains; impale all wildilfe on rusty spikes; purposefully wait until the wettest day to lift their root crops; would happily plant seeds which could revert to a random parent variety etc.
Or perhaps we desperately, desperately, need to find temporary jobs in the public sector (paid for by modulating these farmer's free money for doing nothing) for a whole generation of otherwise jobless 20-somethings with arts degrees and little grasp of long division.

Why is the legalities of this an issue ??
Why would any one want to hss a hybrid and have no guarantee of the outcome of the crop, isn't the law just protecting people like the op from having a variable or poor outcome with the next years crop.
Growing conventionals and home saving them (paying the royalties of course) would be the logical outcome of any dissatisfaction with the cost of hybrid seed and potentially dodgy hss hy
Most farmers dontmy point is do we really need it to be LAW though ?
