I still think you should get it xrayed. Daughter broke a small bone in the middle of her foot last year. Had to be plastered to reduce chances of arthritis when she's older.

Few years ago I when carrying a big log ring I went over on my ankle and sure I heard a crack.

Anyway it immediately swelled up and became painful.

I hobbled to the house and due to A+E waiting times rang a friend who worked as a podiatrist and he said if it wasn't painful standing on it ,it more than likely was not broken.

The next day I hopped around doing the yard work and rolled the silage pit sheet back literally on my knees.

It took weeks to be able to walk on it and I'd say a year for the twinges to go.

Looking back I think I did break my ankle.

You likely did.
I gave mine a good "sprain" according to Dr Mum.
Hobbled around school on it for 7 weeks before haeding into the doctor, straight off to xray. Sure enough.....
He said "when did you do this?" in a very disappointed disapproving doctor like manner.......

Sounds like you did indeed break it. Physio said it takes a year for the bone to be back to full strength.
