Why do people insist on having cabs full of crap

I know it’s a bit different but I drive a petrol tanker and keep the inside of my cab as clean as I can and I REALLY can’t stand dirty steering wheels! Other drivers like to live and work in shite all day which I can never understand. If you ever have to drive one of their trucks for the day some of them make your skin crawl :hungover:And one of them is so bad that I drive it with big thick work gauntlet type gloves on, it stinks. Not the most comfortable way to spend the day but better than feeling really scruffy all the time. The way I look at it is we are dealing and breathing in carcinogenic stuff whilst loading and tipping, why would you want to spend the rest of your day sitting in it too(and eating)???

I'm guilty of having a messy cab at most times of the year. Usually give it a clear out before we start silaging and before the winter. I wish the tractor manufacturers would provide a decent sized toolbox with their tractors. On my Kubota it's only big enough to carry a few pins. I need to carry hammers, fencing pliers, spanners, ratchet straps etc and there is just nowhere to put it.

I basically won't live in a cab full of anything. I'm renowned for cleaning and odd-jobbing if I am in the same seat for more than a day.

Driving around with a stilsons under the pedals, or stuff behind the seat, it drives me nuts. As if there isn't enough noise and bric a brac on a tractor rattling around.

First order of business is a clear up of all rubbish.
Then any mechanical bits get relocated into the toolbox.
Pen and paper or maps or manuals get stowed properly.
Sweep out the floor and behind the seat.
Cab air filters get blown out.
Whip around with grease gun.

If I am driving around in a reasonable tractor I would treat it the same way I would my car. Interior is kept tidy and the exterior is cleaned off when the opportunity presents itself.

If I was working for someone full time and long term I would expect time to be devoted to cleaning and tidying up kit- most people do in fairness.

I have a variety of car cleaning products, a good hour spent cleaning the inside of the cab, seat, dash and armrest/controls works wonders with the right products in hand.

My Baler man goes past the Govt HGV inspectors on a regular basis (they tend to sit on a council car park and draw vehicles in for a look ) !!
Hes been stopped a few times and last time they had a bee in their bonnet about anything unauthorised on the cab floor

You guys actually wear clogs day to day? I have a set I bought as a souvenir the first time I went to the Netherlands, and they are fairly comfortable, I only wear them as outdoor slippers to trudge around the garden if it is wet.

There is a big crack on the windscreen of our telehandler which I'm pretty sure arrived at the same time the dash board was being used as a convenient place to keep a top link pin. I've also gone over a bump before and had a water bottle bounce under a pedal. Scruffy cabs full of junk will lead to damage and accidents.
Mate if mine put a massey 390 on its side when a petrol can for a chainsaw that was sat on top of a load if bale net behind the seat slipped off and went under the pedals so he couldnt stop. Went up a bank instead of hitting another tractor that had stopped on the road in front of him.
Tedding hay in our little ford 4600 years ago went down a steep ish but and the tractor went sliding down the hill and and bounced to a stop at the bottom of the hill in some ruts. Only damage was to the back of my leg were a drawbar with a ball hitch on it bounced off the mudguard (that has a toolbox on it why the hell wasnt it put IN the box?) And hit me in the back of my calf. It bloody hurt (even tbough it doesnt sound like something that would be painful really does it) amd bruised quite badly. All dad had to say was well at least at least it hit you and didnt break a window with it :finger:
I always throw bale net and wrap out when it starts to build up but the loader tractor is by no means clean. But why the hell would you leave it all there its a bloody pain. Dad (and a loy of other people i know) leaves it there then conplain that they cant see to hook up to trailers and things :banghead::confused:
The look he gave me when i put an airline on the cab the same time as i did the radiator was a mixture of :scratchhead::rolleyes::meh: it took less time than it would take you to rant about it but ok ill just complain about the crap in the cab instead :banghead:

Yes , well mine is !! Having been bale wrapping for a few yrs ,and having the controls to the side front ,I am used to having the right hand door locked and a 5 litre container on its side , with the side removed , with all my balls and pegs in it:rolleyes:

I had a habit of putting the bale net behind the weight block on the front , until for the second time ,the fine threads that hung down went around the front axle ,and into the seal , fecking it up

Bet many of you were damn glad of a messy cab, when in the furthest field from the yard, you needed a knife, claw hammer, lump hammer, roll of tape, pliers, length of twine, bit of rope, end of roll of ploy wire, bushman saw, hoof knife, .............

Shame my modest cab isn’t quite big enough to hold a couple of old pallets ....... then and only then will tractor cabs fulfill their true potential.

Ours are full of useful crap and mainly always have something about to get us out of trouble, especially if we've gone to away ground. I don't care what anyone else thinks... they ain't gotta ride in it.

Wraps are good for rubbing your hands clean if there's nowt else about.

Daughter asked me if I was going to clean pick up out before taking her and boyfriend to airport..I tell her 'second class riding is better than first class walking'.:ROFLMAO:

I'd eat in any of our vehicles....clean muck I call it...and not anyone else's filthy germs

Norhing wrong with keeping useful crap in a cab, or anywere else really, but do you need a month ir more worth of bale net so you cant see out of the back window because ive seen loads of tractors like that around here (n)
