Why does WOSR appear to be shorter this season?

Whatever the cause, it appears to be nationwide.

It’s not extreme cold temperature related as we all had a pretty mild winter.
I can only guess it’s a result of OSR roots sitting in field capacity saturated soil for 6 full months.

Near me was a really nice block of osr, but getting up close it's short, thin and disappointing. Pleased I didn't t grow any.

My crop was a fair height when I went through with petal fall spray, now all flat

Ours still the height of tractor bonnet, couple of poorer waterlogged patches shorter but overall just as tall as normal

Out of interest are you reasonably good free draining land?I only ask as from what most of said water logging of the roots has been the cause the shorter crops this year.
If that’s the case I assume OSR on chalk soils haven’t suffered so badly.

Far from it, everything from yellow clay to peat in various fields

Scratch that. Went over it last night and the the high erucic stuff is short, buy theres a couple of areas of double zero volunteers with big pods that have gone tall and lodged.
It does make me wonder if the high erucic pays its way or not.
