Why would they want to take part in any discussions (slanging match) on a tuppeny bit forum where anyone can be whatever they want?!

I am not an an actual working farmer btw. I am in fact a gender neutral meat eating vegan, a direct drilling, min till ploughing enthusiast living at the top of a tower block at the the bottom of Scotswood road in Newcastle...

The NFU press office does a very good job in what is often a difficult world out there.

What would be the point in expending time and energy on this forum which is mostly agriculturally based and often biased anyway.

The message they are trying to get out is to the politicians, the press and social media influencers to ensure the consumers of our products understand what it is the members of the NFU are doing and how much better the food produced here is, and why British farmers should be treated fairly.
They do monitor the engagement every week of what goes out in all forms of media and can calculate the value of this in what would be "advertising" but is "free".

Where does the media go for any comment on food stories? Certainly not TFF or CLA or TFA!!
If the media want a story with pictures then the first call is to the NFU press office which will always be able to find a farmer on the ground who is able to clearly explain the case and do it in all regions if required.
They will also produce briefings on a daily basis for the media who don't have the time or inclination to do research these days.

It is one of the great strengths of the NFU and I for one would not want to see them wasting time on here.

I think Jeremy Clarkson has probably done more good for British farming in one year than NFU, AHDB and RT have done in the last 20.

Not that I'm knocking all the behind the scenes things that these organisations do that is unseen.

As above ????
Shows a sign of weakness to me as the NFU is representing farmers.
Isn't the clue in the title ?

Press office? They deal with the press, furnishing them with factual information they then use .

I know they have been busy over the CO² shortage.

Minette was on radio 4 this morning and Chair of the Turkey group was lined up for BBC breakfast this morning.

All part of the press offices remit.

Why does everybody care so much ?? The general public doesn’t give a f**k about there food or where it comes from… maybe a small percentage does but that percentage already know…. The general public want food as cheap and easily accessible as possible and they don’t don’t care how they get it no amount of press will ever change that

That is exactly why!👍

Why doesn't Borris come on to get shredded too?

People on here can criticise the NFU or Red Tractor, but not many are offering a group visit around their farm or to show their accounts oe record keeping ti show how good they are at their job.

I'm not a huge NFU or Red Tractor fan, but I can understand why they'd avoid an unprofessional platform where people can say you're ugly from behind a mask.

Why would one need a group visit or to show one's accounts to prove it they were good at their job or not?
RT is a private company that controls 95% of the grain market backed by the NFU and others, my accounts and indeed my yard is my business, it has sweet FA to do with them.

It would be lovely to be able to engage with the NFU on TFF but for the reasons already outlined, would be difficult in practice.
The problem for the NFU is needing to be quick to react to situations in the modern social media age but also needing to consult members to be representative.

It is about time they had an app for all legitimate and Bone Fide farming members which allowed them to ask for approval almost immediately. It would also give a much more accurate feedback on their policies and ideas.
All members could tap a response on their phone within a few hours whereas many struggle to get to meetings.

Most of them aren't even that arsed about cheaply. They're more interested in just getting it from one place in one go. If their particular brand of doughnuts has run out on the day they are there there's hell on. If they were really bothered about cheapness they'd trail round lots of different shops or better still markets.

This isn't the place for the nfu to engage. Its too knockabout.

This place is great for fertilising ideas, sharing opinion etc but you have to accept its limitations that is one persons view having the equal weight of anothers. Such democratic stuff doesn't suit farming organisations which prefer committees, tithes and offering and hierarchy.

That stuff does have its place of course but it doesn't make for good listeners

Bless you. Jeremy has you in his enthral, like he has most on this forum. The gullible will be gullible I guess. Love Island is another show for the gullible.

Exactly… everything body is obsessed these days with how the public see us and how we engage with them… the ones that are willing too engage or care about how W they see us don’t need posh tv ads, new paper articles and shut because theyve been engaged for years of there own accord and interests… the rest just want too get on with they’re lives… put your heads down and carry on.. the man who sticks his head out of the trench is the man who gets his head blown off

As a farmer, I get considerable more engagement in conversations from the general public about farming, because they have watched Clarksons Farm, than I ever did before................so don't really see your point !

Therefor in my opinion, he has done a great job for British Farming PLC.
