Why don't macdonalds source uk chicken?

Lots of adverts going on about Organic milk, free range eggs and beef from selected British and Irish Farms. Why no mention of Chicken? presumably because its from Indonesia or somewhere. And, assuming I'm right why don't they change? They have some very good agricultural sourcing credentials as far as I can see but why not go the whole hog? (pun not intended but what about the pigs/bacon?). Also why is the Milk and only the milk organic? Discuss

The answer will be either the supply is not consistent enough or the added cost incurred would mean the end price to the customer is disadvantageous.

Im sure very clever marketing people have already considered going 100 percent organic.

Remember these companies will have herculean amounts of data based on what volume of what product is sold where as they are collecting it 24/7 and have done for years.

According to their website all chicken used is breast meat & whilst the UK market could potentially supply it there's the issue of what to do with the rest of carcasses for which there's less of a market & so would potentially add costs as a result of wastage & disposal.

The organic milk looks good without adding significant costs, but would potentially have quite a big cost impact if extended to all main ingredients & I can't see that boosting sales & profits greatly.

So it would be even better if they committed to uk sourced chicken and used the whole carcass. I don’t see why they couldn’t it’s all processed chicken isn’t it?

Not all processed, no - some is served as chicken breast meat. Anyway, they offer a quality product in breast only, and clearly they see the market wants that. They sell more food than most companies, so I expect they have a good handle on what the customer wants.

I suppose because of the chicken nugget scandal, people are reassured by “just” breast meat or they would be thinking beaks, feet, sweepings off the floor, mechanically recovered meat etc etc
