Why have AHDB commissioned NFU to chair the investigation into imported grain assurance standards and costs?

So is it the merchants paying for whatever tests they decide are needed? Certainly not farmers from abroad paying, so why would we pay, we sell a raw product that fully complies with uk law - tick - my merchant samples and does don tests etc FOC and finds appropriate end user - I assume that's role of middleman - am sure they still make a little bit on each load - so how is the cost of tests to a merchant on a boatload of imported grain got any relevance to the RT costs of each individual farmer

I'm not certain of exactly what is being studdied, but I believe AHDB have funded a study, chaired by Tom Bradshaw (NFU Vice President), looking into the tests done on imported grain, cost of doing so etc.

I'm just concerned that the NFU partly own RT, and are generally supportive of RT, so how can we be certain that such a study is going to be analysed without any bias towards RT?

Would it have been more sensible to ask someone to do the research who has no links to RT, and to not have RT, NFU or AIC sat around this table (which they currently are).

It would be turkeys voting for Christmas.

Its just another set up which they think farmers are to thick to see through. The more this is investigated the more we are going to see how actually corrupt the likes of the nfu, AHDB are!

How do we trust the findings?

BTW, Tom Bradshaw is a good man imho. So no offence meant to Tom.

It's just, when you think about it, AHDB might have messed up by not funding independent research. Levy payers have paid for this.

AHDB probably did this with good intentions, but if the conclusion is "UK farmers should stop moaning, we think it's in your best interests to remain locked in to RT, and we know what's best for you"...

...then we aren't going to trust that conclusion are we? Which would mean ot had been a waste of levy payers cash.

I hope the correct answer comes out of this study.

He might well be a good man but he will be steered by the piper who pays his wages.

I'll let you into a secret. There aren't any special tests. Or if there are, its very little.

Ask you local merchant what tests are done on imported stuff and he probably won't even reply to you.

They won’t find anything out as it seems no one has a bloody clue what the tests on imported grain are.

And if they do find out what tests are done as UK grain producing, paying customers of rt, NFU, AHDB we have a right to know

They are never going to say somebody sticks their finger in the air .. it stinks of corruption.
