Why have farm sales in March?

It's the time of year when ( historically) it it's most practical for farms to change hands. Fodder stocks at their lowest, muck spread, ready to turn stock out for the Spring. Better than moving after harvest and having to buy a years worth of production.

I was aware this happened in livestock parts of the country but here in east anglia tenancies normally begin at Michaelmas....

Not only sales, plenty of courses and stewardship/tier funding presentations, etc being offered now.
The very people who would probably benefit most from a gee-up are the ones most likely to be lambing/calving at home without cover staff.

Nah sod the old beet were going for a bacon roll a snout around and a yarn!!!!!!! May even end up with something knocked down to me.....normally unintentionally and not what we go for.
We don’t all farm on a beach so getting the ground all ready takes rather longer and we have less suitable days to do it ;)

I think everyone apart from slim shiny and Breckland boy has heavier soil than Robbie. He knows I’m only pulling his leg. I don’t know quite why I aggravate you so much but in an attempt to calm you down....

Brown and co have a sale at fakenham, just "up tha rud" from @spin cyle. There'll probably be a few stray/feral sheep running around the sale field going by what he says on the diary thread.???

I will look at the Browns website.
A neighbour south of us has made a start but the fieldsman didn't know of anyone else.
