Why is it always £70 / acre ?

The old SFP was stuck in the 90's at £70 / acre or thereabouts.
ELMS apparently is £70/ acre
Carbon sequestering is, you guessed it.........around £70 / acre.

Coincidence ? Or is this the universal figure arrived at behind closed doors that the bigger operators will accept without kicking up too much fuss ?

I'd be more content at £1000/ acre, but that's just me.....

I mean...seriously.... we're dealing with companies that make £ 1 million every second, and we're going to relieve them of £70 / acre for sequestering carbon ? Really ?

If your renting it doesn’t really matter what you receive as your landlord ends up with it and some , what they talked about and should have done was capping all payments above a certain average , carbon credits will become a big farce

I reckon the government are going to be onto a good thing, From what Ive gathered from local landowners (especially the past retirement age ones) they aren’t going to bother to do anything with elms.

Allot won't understand it anyway and time you pay an agent or some such to sort it all out plus other costs it will hardly be worth it

Not worth the bother then. When you convert to acres, it focuses the mind on how pitiful these payments really are.

Might be surprised if they start to realise no one will bother unless the rates increase dramatically

Don’t forget the yield penalty as well. Down a ton to the acre cos you drilled it into a bed of zero tilled chopped straw just to ease the conscience of some stag party jetting off to Prague for the weekend.

£70 hectare now but I think that the bar to obtain that sum will be raised ever higher in the coming years.

I am honestly not sure any of these schemes are worth the bother. Better to keep your eye on the agricultural ball. £70/ha isn’t much grain yield. Concentrate on maintaining agricultural performance without the added overhead or potentially yield limiting constraints of the scheme and I think we will be OK. I still have enough potential to do better agriculturally to mitigate the loss of BPS. Left myself some headroom. Haven’t really been trying for the last 30 years.

Exactly that, they don’t understand it and mention anything to do with carbon this carbon that you just get a blank face.

We are farming 291ha or grass, wheat and mazie. So thats £20k @ £70/ha for from I can see things i'm already doing?

Might as well be filling the pension?
