No year is the same, sadly. One good year for us was 2015, I think? In terms of haymaking that is, ragwort was terrible tho :( I do think climate change is a big factor in all this. For example I used to be able to plant veg out in april-may, no problem. Now I can't do that until early June, which is a bit of a pain. Not only that but we keep getting high winds and uneven temps, hot one day cold the next. More unpredictable weather patterns in recent years here in Wales tbh...

Im not so sure there has been a dramatic change in weather ,we as farmers in the uk have always had dry seasons wet seasons etc as the years are all different .What has changed is the pressure we are under in order to get the job done both physical and financial. however what has happened is the forecasters with all their improved technology have been wrong either short ie /day or mid ie 2-4day for some reason this year to the point where its hardly worth looking ,Since we started grass harvest in late may through cereal harvest and sowing there have been only a handful of days when they have been anything like correct or at least it feels that way ,oh and one of them on tv said this morning that it would be lovely to have breakfast in the garden this morning, so with this in mind decided to have kippers which im only allowed to cook(barbie) and eat outside and I can tell you its, damp, overcast and windy and i need a jacket on

it really is rubbish. wondering at what point do we give up on our spring barley and put our name on the list of people looking for straw!
by now in 85 things were starting to look up? apparently? dad remembers there was more floods in 85 with dry days between but it was so wet nothing could be done.

i wonder is there any hope of this hurricane banging into the jetstream and moving it north? there was hop of that a month ago but it didnt happen.

I'm trying to understand what has happened to us this summer. It's now 24 weeks since we had a totally dry week ( W/E 7th May ).
I've calculated the rolling 4 week rainfall since then , the first four week period being the one ended 4th June , when the total was 68.5 mm.

By the next week , the 4 week total was 140.5 mm followed by 108.5 , 106.5 , 125 , 78 ,108.5 , 117 , 112.5 ( that was period ending 30th July ).

Then it goes 116.5 ,89.5 , 132 , 149.5 , 126.5 , 177 ( !! period ended 10th Sept) , 147 , 122 , 123.5 , 108 , and finally 117.5 - 4wks ended 15th October.

We've had significant rainfall this week too.

So there has been practically no let up in almost six months of what should be the more clement part of the year.

It's an impossible situation.
