I have today travelled from Spilsby to Cromer and I cannot believe how many fields of drilled cereal crops have had a pre-em applied in shocking conditions, the crops were obviously only just mauled in (and they look crap) who recd a crop which was likely to fail given the weather conditions to be sprayed with a hold it back weed killer?? Black grass or not this year see a crop before spending money!! By the way the sprayer wheelings are deep and full of H2O what a mess,, CRIMINAL!!

You buy the inputs
Oh I see what you mean. I haven’t personally got any mauled in wheat as my 750 only ran for 2 days on Oct 9th and 10th. I do my own agronomy and buy the inputs myself. Mine are all sprayed but being Dd you can hardly see the tramlines now except headland ones.
I was just putting forward the point that a lot of people seemed desperate to drill whatever the conditions and have been told over the years to spray pre em no matter what.
I agree this year is wet and nowhere near ideal to spray.

even more criminal to have sprayed wheat for aphids this year, especially recently
Pre em for aphids ???? what a joke/criminal.!!

whoa :D...i'm outta arable now so outta the 'loop'....there are lots of emerged crops round here so i was speculating:)......mind you with the weather/forecast i agree with op...it is probably criminal cos even i remember that many autumn sprays shouldn't be applied if heavy rain expected in next fortnight?

I agree richard in 2012 I got pre ems on as soon as I drilled mostly first 3 weeks of October
wheat had no vigour all winter and then a cold March April half the wheat was replanted with spring barley because it did no grow on even though it had n early
there is also the problem that the amount of rain has washed out any Available n in the soil
this year cover crops have no go and are a 1/4 the crop last year due to no n in the soil
if I was planting any crops now it would be on bg free land and no pre em wheat and beans especially
