Why should the USA bankroll NATO.

I ask this question as all good liberal europeans berate Trump and the US but meanwhile want to spend money on social welfare in their country while the US pays for their collective security.
According to the Times today the US spends 3.57% on defence meanwhile Germany 1% , Netherlands 1% and Belgium less than 1% . Not only is the % greater but the total sum is greater than the rest of NATO combined !!!!.
Meanwhile Germany with a huge trade surplus with the US "hopes" to meet the 2% by 2030 .
I dont blame Trump for demanding a greater commitment from the smug liberals in Europe who want their cake and eat it.

I guess Europe and to a degree the US are living in the past, we (US) are still in that post WW2 mindset with bases and thousands of troops scattered around the globe. As a US taxpayer I very much resent the attitude taken by Europe and cannot wait for the day when President Trump holds their feet to the fire........personally I would pull the American troops of EU today, why must the tax payers of America continue to subsidize wealthy Europeans safety..?

I am saying all this knowing it will never happen........maybe just send Germany a bill for services rendered..??

The US arent gonna cut military spending so the US tax payer wont see any difference whether NATO exists or not.

I firmly believe that each country should fund its own military,internal security & border force/s.We should look after ourselves first before getting involved in others problems and conflicts.Switzerland is an excellent example,prosperity by looking after number 1 first.

The US has military influence all over the world and bases in over 80 counties. This had mostly been to counter the old USSR but Russia is still a serious threat today.

I would suggest you go and check your figures again. Europe funds the Palestinians to a far grater extent than the US.
