It's surprising how good Quadtracks and other big rubber tracked tractors are on steep ground like this as long as its dry, but then so were 2 wheel drive Massey 1155s on dual wheels and Cats on steel tracks before them. Much more satisfying than flat ground and straight lines.

Can't say I'd be comfortable in it bobbing about shuttling backward and forward. I wonder if the driver honestly realises how steep that is and potential danger with all that levelling trickery. A slip would be a major event to say the least.

I agree: balls of steel................and probably a bloody good farm payment as danger money!

Would it have been farmed by hand back in the day then things slowly progress to this?

In Italy yes, as the soil in the valley bottoms was eroded in Roman times they started farming ever further up in the hills. They don't crop too often in a long rotation and still herd their sheep as they graze.
