The original Orkel chopper balers chopped it and blew it into the chamber, this is similar, maybe the guy is just utilising existing equipment rather than spunking a fortune on a rig to work for two weeks of the year.

Quite a lot of dairy farmers get them bale grinder machines in to finely chop straw and hay for there rations

this is removing that so the bales can go straight in the mixer

I've done "fine chop" conventional bales with barley straw, bàstàrd to bale but made tight dense bales, only weighed 30kg too.
