Does anyone else have problems getting a printer to communicate with the router/network.

Smartphone talks to the router without any problems, but printer can't or the other way round possibly..

Canon blame the router obviously, Printer works fine via USB, but then it's only connected to one computer, whereas the former printer was connected directly by ethernet cable and any computer could print.

I've always found WiFi printers a bit temperamental at best, have found sometimes that connecting it to the router with an ethernet cable to get it started and working on the network, then disconnecting it and then setting up the WiFi has worked for me.

Our printer does not work wirelessly when it has a hard wire connection to the computer. Is it connected to anything else when you are trying to print wirelessly?

No, this is from trying to start up with new printer, the USB connection was the last resort to get it to work.

Can't, this model and loads more I looked at don't have ethernet connections anymore, as Canon say 'why do you need ethernet, they work wirelessly' or not in this case.

Mine is very temperamental. A case of when it works, print everything off quick
I went for my haircut this morning, her husband has a haulage business, she told me theirs is a pain, works for days on end no bother then one day it as to be set up again, usually when he has a driver waiting for some paperwork.

Our printer isn't WiFi but the computer its tied to using a USB cable has a dongle, so all computers on the wireless hub can use the printer as long as the computer is switched on.
That might be a more robust option?

Bain of my life , printers are piging things, local computer shop let slip one day they make more of fixing printing issues than computers , so your not alone mine has me suicidal most months.

My main printer work fine for months then all of a sudden the connection is lost.

Set up the connection again and it'll churn stuff out for month happily.

I've a thermal printer for labels and that was a pig to set up.. eventually got it working via wifi but it's one temperamental thing... often quicker to just stick the usb lead in.

My new hp says it wants a password to connect wirelessly. I've googled for this password but the instructions on how to find it are too complicated for me to understand. Obviously I am a bear of very little brain.

Not the password on back of the router?

We changed to black and white laser, the baby HP one with no chip in the cartridge.
£6 for enough dust for 2 refills ...................

Computer shop, wanted to sell the larger one that needs the chip changed with every refill.

Yeah WIFI printers in my experience are a complete nightmare, and to be avoided.
Far better to get an ethernet network printer and plug it into your network with Cat5. They are pretty bomb proof.
Then if you want to print over wifi to that, you'll only have the wifi issues on the device that's trying to send the print job.
Which will be easier to diagnose.

Personally, as a general rule I confine wifi to mobile devices only, I will use ethernet for fixed devices where ever possible, because ethernet 'just works'

It's not just me then, was going to ask this very question to the learned membership on here.
There are a few PC's logged into a WiFi router in the house, along with a HP inkjet printer, seems it's always the computer you are using looses it's connection to the printer just after pressing the print button, sometimes it kicks out a few pages then has a "rest", that rest period can last from a couple of minutes to a couple of days then randomly spit out the rest of the work sitting in the printer task list. It seems there is no reason or timing behind it and so far the only way round it appears to be to reboot the problem pc. seems to work perfectly for a few pages after this and any other pc can use the printer without fault.
Does anybody have any ideas to try to make the system more stable?

ps. Ethernet is not an option with ipad etc.
