Blimey...thats not on @egbert ..sorry to hear that.

Im the kind of bloke who goes walking with a bin bag and my litter grabber so Id like to think Im one of the good ones.

Thanks for all your replies. This doesnt sound like its going to be as easy as I thought as we dont want to be arseholes.

Back the drawing board!
No, do stick at it.
Most of us will happily oblige if you show willing-as you are=- and offer a little bit of folding.
You help water down the others.

On a wider front, the experiences have helped me hone some interesting philosophies and a more complete understanding of the human condition.
Arguably, an apathy toward humanity ever finding resolution and sensible direction, and the burning desire to commit genocide aren't necessarily the outcomes some people would anticipate or desire...but then, they're not the ones having their lives invaded.

Had many walkers here who have set up near the coast path and there are some good spots to camp to be fair where you have total no artificial light or noise zones.

I remember circa 2003 8 Czech students were walking around the coast here mid winter in a storm, luckily we saw them as they were soaked, we transported them up to the yard and they set up in a shed for a few days, 2 of them came back a few weeks later to do some lambing as a thank you for letting them dry off and dry their gear for a few days.
I have a neighbour who does trips around the world on various civilian expeditions as the group medic and he sometimes sleeps in the no light zones with no tent or sleeping bag, just in the clothes he’s wearing, now that’s wild camping 🤣

looks like you have set the rabbit running now!
So why not simply post on here with your desired area, then see if you can join the dots with offers of a wild pitch and see where your adventure takes you.
From what I can see you already have several offers, one more here if you make it up to Derbyshire!
good luck

OH fell over a wild camper AKA Gentleman of the Road one morning when checking sheep. He was tucked up in long grass next to the fence and was most apologetic for trespassing just off the road. Don't know who was most surprised, he was gone next day.

I think you need to distinguish between proper walkers/cyclists who carry everything with them and the booze and bbq brigade. It wouldn’t bother me if I found the former camping without permission as it can be difficult and possibly a long way to find out who owns a patch of grass. The latter however may not have the respect for the countryside that they should have.

We were up for the Keswick mountain festival, the place is spotless despite thousands of people descending on the town. Definitely a different class of people compared to some of these horror stories of the aftermath you hear of.

Not exactly wild camping but had a couple teens in a Vauxhall corsa camp in their car right in the middle of a freshly combined barley field last summer. They drove across all the rows, I found them in the morning with a disposable bbq next to the car! You couldn’t make it up. told them to f**k off quickly and started chucking all there sh!t back into their car

I wasnt sure where to post this...

My wife and I are keen walkers and quite fancy multi day hike with a wild camping night but have no idea about:

1) How you guys feel about people camping on your land (providing we follow the "leave no trace" principle) and remain very inconspicuous, and
2) How we'd go about getting permission to do so? I'm pretty sure you dont want unsolicited door knocks.

We'd potentially be looking at somewhere on the South Downs.

Cheers,
Shrike
I bet if you looked into it you would find a few basic farm camp site along the way, that probably only cost £10 or £15 a night. Plus you normally get to use proper toilets and maybe a shower.

I always thought wild camping would be walking till dusk then pitching the tent wherever you are, preferably somewhere remote, then moving on early in the morning with nobody knowing you were there.
If you are heading for a certain point and paying the farmer a few quid you may as well stay on a proper site with amenities.
Without knowing or caring whose land it is?
Because my farm is remote and beautiful ....are my rights somehow less?
Should I clear and drain every last bit to make it less beautiful...?

They all say 'we're not doing any harm' etc etc.
I've heard it all.
But vanishingly few really leave no trace, and the subtle graduations from that to the 'pull the transit van to the side of the road at the beauty spot and let the kids and dogs out to run while we set up the barbie' are many....but a continual set of behavioural stepping stones.

I've oft travelled on foot, and camped out of the back of a car/camper van across other countries.
I ask if there's anyone to ask, and politely defer/defuse should I inadvertently step on someones toes. It's not rocket science.
But in this densely populated country, it's a very different kettle of fish.
