I've never seen as many Wild Oats as the last couple of days spraying, not usually a problem here.

Are others finding an explosion in numbers, wondering if its weather related.

Certainly a factor, but if it doesn't have Atlantis it has Axial so not a recent seed return issue.

My hazy memory thinks that a cold snap heaves enough soil to break the dormancy of wild oats. That's pure speculation but weather has something to do with it.

I have blown the dust off my copy of 'Wild Oats in World Agriculture' (ARC 1976, 296 pages), and:
"The evidence of the effect of temperature levels or changes upon dormancy is somewhat conflicting", but goes on to state "even -10C for 7 days increased germination from 28% to 44% (Rijkslandbouwhogeschool 1960).

And that thorny question about length of seed viability:
- "the length of seed survival in arable land therefore lies between 2 and 9 years, with 4 to 5 years being the most frequent".

I Use Avadex so have very few

If you have many and have used regular spray be vigilant of resistance issues if the same mode of action has been used

Avadex is the kiddie if you are finding more and more of them about.

Definitely more here. I put it down to my first year discing, not ploughing.
Big strong ones as well.
