Looking at a few pictures on google, I agree with you. Buzzards are more mottled and darker on the chest, where sparrowhawk has the banding as shown above. Plenty of brown ones shown as well.

Only just seen this. Yes, a young female sparrowhawk. What falconers call "a red hawk" as she is this year's bird. Note the reddish edge to the feathers on her back. Very exciting birds to fly. They have courage way beyond their size. Weight about 8oz - 10oz.
