Emporer moth caterpillar, the Emporer moth is huge, this caterpillar was bigger than my forefinger, those are mature elm leaves.

Checked mine today seems very late 3 chicks and one of the bigger ones was either dead or not far from didn’t want to poke In there case put the mother ofd

the recent wet weather has not helped butterflies very few on our buddliahs but i suppose thats down to us farmers! meanwhile it appears to have encouraged moths , we try and to have habitats to help both , but its not observed by the general public they just watch countryfile telling them how bad we all are!

Local bird man came to ring Barn Owl chicks. Just 2 this year (4 last ) big difference in size.
Bird man saying bad year for Owls, especialy Tawney
Theory that field voles have a 4 year cycle. Numbers build up over 4 years then crash for reasons no one is sure of.
Been happening for years ( so not something the BBC can blame on global warming)
