Will china be held accountable?

Without going into specifics, Britain ruled a large part of the globe by 1920.
It didn’t get there by politely asking permission.

Neither did it keep by asking permission!

Even it’s great and revered hero’s, had a nasty side.
You should have been taught all this in school ...... did they just provide the suitably redacted version of the true events?
But you can get around all that today, by using google.
Here’s just one small slice .......

i don't deny that.... but that was over a century ago....at the time imperialism was the deemed way to go.....much as globilisation is now....i have no doubt that if humanity lasts 100 more years it'll view globalisation then as we view imperialism now

i'd also argue that we can't accept china committing her crimes just because we're guilty of some of them in the past because otherwise we've learnt nothing

What are you intending to hold China accountable for?

Supplying the West with much needed ventilators perhaps?
Well, for starting a worldwide pandemic that has killed 1000's and severely effected economys across the world, highly likely to have covered up there numbers and probably when they first knew about the virus, and yes they are supplying us with ventilators and much needed ppe that we wouldnt need it if they hadn't created this marvellous new strain of covid and they're not giving us the equipment we'll be buying it! But other that that nothing......oh and shark fin soup!

Of course we can’t accept China doing sh!t nowadays. But do you really think China will take a blind bit of notice of either Britain, America or the EU, demanding compensation. Many of the wars and troubles in the world today, are a direct or indirect hangover from previous century’s imperialism. That includes imperialism of several of today’s EU countries. The rising new global powers led by China, aren’t going to be lectured to, by old waning powers, and certainly won’t be paying fines any day soon.
In any case, it’s hard to know what the fudge happened with this virus. Was it wet market made, or was it laboratory made? Who would I believe in any event? The Chinese... CIA ..... Trump.... MI5 .... Boris... Merkel .... Macron ....Putin ??? Might as well toss a coin.
Realistically, all that will now happen, is to hope a vaccine is developed quickly, and somehow economic recovery takes hold again.
There will certainly be a huge rethink by the west over its economic relationship with China, and much will change I guess.
Don't be surprised though, if the west US, EU, UK and others come out much worse out of the economic fallout than China???
Seems to me that this kind of event, and it’s economic aftermath, isn’t one which can be sorted by military power and technology.
China’s one party system backed up by iron rule of the people, gives them all the aces in controlling the virus within its borders. They will be able to manage second and third waves.
Here in the west, unless we come up with a vaccine pretty quickly, ......... it’s potential Armageddon .......

Remember, we in the west are governed by 4 to 5 year elections and the policies that that produce. I remember reading something years ago before Chinas recent resurgence as a world power that they have been there before over the centuries and work on 50 and 100 year plans.

I don't think China or the wet markets are the real culprit. I was reading somewhere that the real culprit is the US, or the wealthy financial houses in the US. They invested heavily in China over a decade ago, into Chicken and Pig production. This involved cutting down forests and displacing 100,000 of rural people. These people then move to the city and cannot afford proper food, so buy food on the black market. This then fuels a wet market of animals never yet reared in intensive situations, and the sentiment of the author was Covid 19 is nothing to what could come down the line.

Watch Contagion. Its not far off the mark. Some say Covid 19 is only the beginning.

You don’t see the irony of accusing Churchill of crimes while your own man Eamon De Valera turned a blind eye to Hitler.

Maybe you could give us all an explanation of how Eamon De Valera could justify Irish neutrality in the Second World War in the face of genocide being carried out in Europe?
Maybe you could explain why many good Irish people chose to fight anyway with allies against the Nazis despite your Mr De Valera taking a neutral stance?
When you can answer those questions then maybe you can begin to criticise Winston Churchill without whom your country might now be under the heel of the third reich.
You really have overreached yourself and lost it in my opinion. Get a grip.

The Korean fellor has went quiet since Trump told him what he would do to them
Name any world leader thats had the balls to try that to any other country in last 30years ???
Even the Russians aint that daft they know if they really try anything silly with us or most other countries our friends in the USA are just a call or tweet/txt away.
I often think because there is so much firepower that could be unleashed by several it actually makes the world a better place.
We all know if one presses that unthinkable button, so will the other. were all dust then

The North Korean man has been doing his usual, launching weapons into the sea and getting on with his lot.

What exactly did Trump threaten? You don't think the NK's don't know about the American nuclear arsenal and have't known about it for decades? What are you gonna do, launch a pre-emptive strike on North Korea? What, with China right next door and their own stockpile? Russia too are just going to sit and watch a radar screen and keep their hands off the trigger?

The idea that China launched this as a secret bioweapon is laughable.

The damage it has done to their economy must be off the scale, given that the West is their largest customer for most products. They have shot themselves in the foot. I don't believe the conspiracy theories, it came from animals as has happened at least twice before. It's only luck the disease didn't spawn in an intensive pig or broiler house in the West. Wonder what public opinion would make of that then?

You are implying that China deliberately started the pandemic, which is ludicrous, they have as much to lose economically as anyone.
The Chinese deaths may not be accurate, but there again whos are? Certainly not the UKs that only report the deaths in hospitals and do not report recoveries from the virus.
Do you really expect the Chinese to give you ventilators and PPE gratis? There is a cost in manufacture which has to be recovered.
As for shark fin soup, what's wrong with it, I find shark quite tasty, I would prefer to eat it than it eat me.

Coronavirus: Will China come out on top?
The Real Story

China was first country to suffer the effects of Coronavirus, but a few months on, it has contained the worst of the outbreak in a way the United States and most European

countries have not. The Chinese economy is bracing for the first year on year economic decline for more than forty years, but western countries are projected to fare even worse. Before the pandemic, the US-China trade war had already amplified rivalries between the world’s two biggest economies, so will Covid-19 accelerate the shift in power and influence from west to east?

China has been trying to increase the size of its domestic economy but the country is still reliant on exports, especially to the United States and Europe. So will that continue, or will the pandemic end hyper-globalisation and China’s place at the heart of global manufacturing?

And will China turn its economy around and help the recovery of the United States and Europe or will it use the crisis to seek economic and strategic advantage? Join Dan Damon and guests as they discuss whether China will come out of the Coronavirus crisis on top.

Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound as if they started it deliberately, just that it started there, but the rest of your counter argument is weak

My original post was just to gauge what others thought about china being held accountable I was not expressing an opinion about it, there has been some really insightfull and intelligent views expressed and that has helped me get a view on it, thank you!

they probably didn't start it deliberately but they are certainly going to make the most of it......clamping down on hong kong democracy protests and stealing intellectual property

we've enough ventilators BTW.....dyson's just had his consignment of 10k cancelled

Um, do you know how skarks' fins are "harvested" for sale to China?

Obviously, if you personally catch and kill a shark humanely for the pot, that's a different matter.
