Wet night?? 7.5mm and cold, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
Forecast to stay cool with showers so crops will fill nicely if it stays like this.
Yield is number of ears/m2 X number of seeds/ ear X TGW of grain.
The first is relatively easy unless you have the extreme heat and dry you had in the south but the art is in the second one. The third is partly a mix of the first two but long cool days with some moisture is the icing on the cake for TGW.

Biggest thing is trying to keep tillers alive on the late drilled (and only stuff) we have, a month of 21deg and bright sun have really knocked it all back

Agreed, but the flip side is if it stays cooler with the odd shower TGW will be higher and compensate some of the visual loss. Seed site abortion due to stress would be my big worry if you don't get decent rain.

About 8mm here now . The beet and maize both look better for a drink. I’m amazed how that beet has been hanging on in the heat / dry we’ve had.

I weather forecast is testing ones mental strength.
look in the morning & 25mm over next few days, look in PM it’s down to 5 mm. It’s been that way for a week now.
Is it going to rain . Not while wind is in NNW.

It never rains where it is needed in a dry year.
Less than 2mm here so far, just enough to help the fusarium I expect.
All you can say is it's better than hot and windy.

It’s been a funny spring really very sunny without being as hot as some years. A lot of wind I would say which has made things very dry. Anytime any rain forecast it is light showers and they are very light if not non existent.

Very variable. Lighter land winter wheat just starting to thin out this last week. 3mm of rain today might prolong it a bit but 2t/ac max.

Spring wheat - on ex osr land that was topdowned after harvest to level out combine rutting and then pigtailed before drilling in March looks very good at the minute.

Direct drilled wheat total failure.

Stubbles pigtailed twice before drilling with spring wheat average looking.

Id hope spring wheat will do 2t/ac average at the moment.

I drove today from the Lincs norfolk border to Grantham then Nottingham, came home though Leicester and back down the A47 to peterbough. It’s the furthest I’ve been for three months and I’m shocked how bad crops look over such a large area . Also many fields left fallow or have large areas sprayed off or patches where water stood in the winter .
