Will I Save Money......

'It costs nothing' in your book but you are unable to quantify it??

Do you have enough time and money to wrap, cart and stack bales?

Can you envisage the time it would take to feed 200 cows using round bale silage? Believe me, I have worked on a place that relied heavily on bales to feed a dairy herd and it was a complete nightmare.
i have 200 cows and do just that, chuck them over barriers into ring feeders, bale grab cuts bale and pulls plastic off for me, couldnt be quicker

whats your main reasons for sticking with bales? a lot of folk on here seem to favour pit
Cost to build put would be same as my net and film bill for 10 years but would also have to pay contractor to fill it. 2 farms 4 miles apart with most silage coming home so bales are easier to haul. All grass doesn't need to be ready at same time so can do a bit here and there. Very little or no waste. Easy to store fresh if there is a carry over. If a pit fell out the sky tomorrow and cost me nothing to build I would use it though.

similar reasons here, plus the associated DM losses(most farmers pretend dont exist) with a pit!

Had a trip down to @granitefarmer this week. Fantastic quality grass. Sheets on before tea
