I heard it said that.....
Maccy D own all their outlets in Russia.
It accounts for 7% of their worldwide turnover.
They have been told that if they pull out, their burger joints will be taken over by the state.
Which means.....
You guessed it.....
More wealth to the oligarchs.

I don't care a hoot. The UK can buy oil from anywhere on the world market. We should not be buying their gas or oil. In fact, we should scale up our own gas production immediately and get serious with other infrastructure plans. We will all be paying for this conflict in one way or another for years irrespective of whether we buy Russian oil or gas.

I couldn't give a fudge about McDonalds- the only thing I still buy from them is coffee which is about the healthiest thing they sell. The rest is cleverly marketed poison.
You really should consider the wider implications. Oil production from other sources can be ramped up. OPEC will be able to replace up to 40% of Russia’s production, possibly within six months, still leaving a massive shortfall that will see fuel poverty and inflation at levels never experienced since World War Two. The gas, which WILL be switched off by Russia in retaliation, cannot be replaced and will result in blackouts across Europe.
You seem only to care for yourself, totally blinkered as usual. This situation has the potential, even without physical war, to push many millions of people out of work and into poverty and debt. Ruin your future and the next generation’s future prospects. Potentially bankrupt Europe and decimate public services and employment. Send everyone back to the 19th Century economically and socially.

Why would a company want to operate in a country with a government that operates like that? Fudge that.

Interesting movement of Ukrainian police helicopters being flown away from Ukraine.

Going somewhere for safety?

But you forget Ukraine can still claim to be independent & able to chose whatever they want or can they?

Think the gas situation in Europe will have been sorted yesterday and it does not involve Russia.

According to google Russian exports are 7% of global trade, china takes nearly 20% of that oil while that isnt insignificant the world needs to stop every penny it can going to russia and the rest of us need to suck it up until putin backs down.
Again According to google opec has the capacity to increase production by over 5 million barrels a day so IF the world is serious it could be done

Whilst I agree with your economic synopsis, there is only one selfish man on the planet that has caused this global upheaval (it isn't ollie).the consequences of the last fortnight will be felt for many many years already, not withstanding what may happen over the next weeks/months. It has been an abject failure of peacetime goverments all over europe to have become so complacent with such an important part of modern civilisation, particularly with Russias increasing agression over the last twenty years. Paying a little, or a lot more, for hydrocarbon products is a problem thousands of ukrainians would love to have.

Not difficult to work out with the Dutch and Canadians over for a chat yesterday. Certainly what I would do given my inside info of the gas industry and the current european gas structure.
Yes I heard the US are bringing Venezuela back into the fold which will help the oil supply but not the price.
Europe would survive the summer with no russian gas but next winter would see it crucified. I can't see a way where LPG in ships could come close to solving this. Unless there's a pipeline I don't know about. ( Which is entirely possible)
