Will the UK chip in for Notre Dame

This thread is an example of why the Brits are so popular around the world.

Being a nation of such poor team players, it's just as well we are going out of Europe.
Bitter Britain.
Yet more Brit bashing from within, perhaps you and @JP1 should look at the facts first before slagging this great country off, we are 4th in the world for foreign aid in total, giving twice as much as the French, and in GDP terms we are miles ahead of the Germans and USA and as for public donations we are fourth in the world and the highest in europe.
Its just the same when people say the brits are racist, of course a few are but very few countries in the world have as many different nationalities living happily together as the UK

Calm down. I'm responding to what has been posted on this thread. Why would that mean I'm bashing the Brits? I am one who is very proud of our Foreign Aid contribution, there's others on here who want to rescind it

You started a thread about Notre Dame

Some of the contributors to this thread just seem to have a pathological dislike of anything "foreign"

I think diversity around the World should be celebrated . If everywhere was like England it would be very boring

Makes me laugh when I think this an anti French thing when you think how many big farmers have wrung the CAP over the years for a system that was originally designed to support small French farmers originally

Maybe read your own post again

Sorry, but I firmly believe charity should begin at home. Our one and only County hospital is closing. Rubbish collected once every 3 weeks. Potholes everywhere. Roadside hedges cut once a year, if at all. Police struggling for funds to fight crime. And yet we must feel guilty if we don't want to contribute to rebuilding a landmark in another country ? Really ?

I don't think anyone is looking to lay guilt and actually controlling and manipulating with guilt is something of a British speciality. Have a look at 1914/15 "volunteer" posters. It was something I had never realised until Mrs Cz pointed out this little
idiosyncrasy of ours.

Peage roads are financed by private investment not state roads

Not entirely .

The status of motorways in France has been the subject of debate through years, from their construction until recently. Originally, the autoroutes were built by private companies mandated by the French government and followed strict construction rules as described below. They are operated and maintained by mixed companies held in part by private interests and in part by the state. Those companies hold concessions, which means that autoroutes belong to the French state and their administration to semi-private companies. Vinci controls around 4,380 km (2,720 mi) of motorway.

From within, of course from within, you should always be your own harshest critic, otherwise you are in denial.

If we are team players, why are so many so bitter and resentful about money that is given to other nations.

Giving money away hasn't boosted our popularity, I guess it's true what they say about there being things that money can't buy.

Yes read that. Why is that bashing Britain. A few insular Kipper farmers on here , yes. Don't conflate the two!!
What does UKIP have to do with this? Just because someone wants out of the UK does not for one moment make them anti any other country in the world. Of course there are some that dislike different countries/cultures/people but that goes for every place in the world

There are some that seem to like to see racism whenever they disagree

bet it was a German combine too! No wonder the poor chap wants out. Not like the good old days when we had British built Massey combines, then we spent all day wishing it would catch fire:):):)

It was , but it got mended and lasted another 10 years , Also had a Massey which never got hot enough to catch fire because it generally broke down after an hour .
