Will they get the job done

I've just had an interesting conversation with a fairly knowledgeable and well-connected chum, and a point was raised by him that is pretty obvious, but which hadn't occurred to me. :banghead:

There are 65 or so members of the ERG (plus some non-members who vote with them) who were returned to Parliament in the GE, you know, the GE in which Boris got an 80 seat majority. These are people who sat in the last Parliament and are back for more.

That same GE brought in 47 new seats, and members, to the PCP as well as other new members replacing retirees and defectors - such as Monsieur Dominic Grieve. And CCHQ has >35 of its new MPs as supporters of a hard Brexit, i.e. happy to walk away, if a deal doesn't seem acceptable to them.

That puts the total number of Conservative MPs who would favour a harder Brexit at, at least, the hundred mark. Which is more than Boris's 80 seat majority...

They are fools! And will find out over the next 5 years.(Corbyn;enough said), and Brexit, where they think that because their lives are so sh!t now,it can hardly get any worse,(it can and it will) Have you ever been to Blyth?

The working classes and chavs who voted for Tories up North and Wales will be hardest hit.

These areas have absolutely nothing going for them, their traditional industries are outdated. These areas were previously blessed with multi million pound European grants to improve the areas, Corbyn even foolishly offered them benefit increases and free broadband!.

However, they voted for Tories who will rightly make them work for a living, why should we have to import Europen labour whilst these lazy gits get everything handed on a plate.

Having lived through Rhodesia and Venezuela’s problems, I know it was bad planing, I see the UK following exactly the same route, OK the names of the parties are different but the methods and steps are the same.
You'll have to explain that to me, I'm very familiar with what's happened in Rhodesia and then Zimbabwe. What is the analogy here? :scratchhead:

You may well be correct , I’m no expert but I thought there was 21 members of the ERG not 65 allthough as you say I’m sure they’ve got their followers too.
I was hoping a large majority would stop the ERG tail wagging the dog.

I like the way Boris has gone up to Tony Blairs old stamping ground just to rub it in a bit more. Victory can be so sweat sometimes.
You have got it wrong.Johnson is trying to emulate Blair, and will have his eyes on 3 election victories.Blair said many times after Johnson was elected leader of the Tories that there would only be one winner between him and Corbyn. They have alot in common, and can read the public mood well, although Johnson gets his information from the Wheeler family. Both of them happy to brown nose the respective American presidents.

If Boris gets the deals done , we'll do very little with the EU

First UK is not trading with the EU, but the individual countries as members of a grouping called the EU. I pedantic but essential point. Second a grouping of 400million consumers a few kms and an hour or two from the UK with similar tastes, custons and culture with which there are upteen decades of close co-operation within manufacturing and service industries.

And you say 'we'll do very little with the EU.

I know you are a wind up merchant and a pee taker, but if you believe even an eensy weensy bit of that statement and you are typical of the Leave Tory then goodness help

But we knew that old fella. The Conservative and Brexit Party have seen off the remainers in their own party and the remainers in the remainers parties. Now we mere Joes who are not one of the 150,000 electorate of the Conservative and Brexit Party are going to watch the leopard show its true spots (or whatever that old saying was). And possibly another instalment of the Tory civil war. But I full expect another rerun of he no deal next atuumn, or sooner as that is what the Conservative and Brexit party really, really wants?
