But, hang on a moment, haven’t we all been told to cut back on fert use to reduce our carbon footprint and to help the environment, surely a win win for Boris.

Truth be told, I will assess the situation over the next month or three, but I’m not about to bet the family silver on a turn of the cards or a spin of the roulette wheel.

If harvest 23 don’t look like paying, then I ain’t playing

Absolutely not. Too much investment in infrastructure required to stay within the law and ag support systems pushing towards less production. Beef cows don't have the money behind them at the moment let alone trying to keep more of them.

Wouldn't it be great listening to Janet Hughes. Prentis and Useless MP's explain themselves to a Committee as to why their policies emptied the shelves of food... During the Cold War in the late 80's the price of wheat was similar to todays price allowing for inflation but input prices certainly were not!! Make the Policy makers squeal like Pigs for a bit??
Isn’t it going to be even funnier, when the names you mention say that if those of us already in any scheme that reduces the food that goes on the supermarket shelves, that they can leave the scheme and put all that land back into food production. Better still, we’ll pay you to do so!

When the original, first ever Set-aside scheme came out in 1990 pre IACS, new Golf Corses could claim that Set-aside.
The only proviso being that if the Government needed you to put it back into food production, such as in times of War, that they could do so.

Maybe this proviso should also be part of the SFI section of ELMS @Janet Hughes Defra ?

Be like this NHS clapping malarkey though , all appreciation for a couple of days and when their tummys are full again it will be 'f##k##g farmers ' again ....
Exactly, bunch of wallys stood on their doorsteps banging pans on a Thursday night whilst getting furlough to do absolutely nothing, thinking that they’ve done their bit to support the local nurse knocking her pan in for 16hr a day.

Same wallys who stripped the shelves bare meaning said nurse met with empty shelves when she eventually got a chance to get to the shop.

I don’t feel any obligation to rush and put myself out just in case suburbia has a little panic, they can lift the decking and plant some veg, be a massive success given how fecking simple the majority seem to think this job is.

Martin Kennedy SNFU president gave a verygood interview on Radio scotland this morning. Straight to the point and gave easy to understand facts and figures. Even the bbc interviewer seemed to be a bit flabbergasted as to the extent of the issues.
Contrast that with the “co-leader” of the Scottish greens who was on after him who couldn’t answer a question to save her life. Kept giving woolly responses about conserving the environment and nature and didn’t actually answer any question put to her
