It possibly boils down to how profitable food production proves to be as the BPS is phased out.

Somehow I feel grain and meat prices will provide a buoyant enough income to make application to these payment schemes financially unnecessary.

I agree with the sentiment if the reality is somewhat more difficult to achieve

What a pity that this endless, mapping, form filling, head scratching, hoping and praying, provision of public goods et al isn't swept away to provide some simple system for supporting farms and farmers to grow and rear food for the UK. It's all too complicated and questionable - even when you do think you understand it

Perhaps I'm dreaming......

I shall look at the new SFI. I was registered for the SFI pilot but did not apply due to time and lack of clarity on application. The new scheme looks like it might be more suitable so is worth a closer look but need to see the detail before I decide to apply or not.

I agree, I cannot see the Tories losing the seat, but a rap on the nose is a distinct possibilty.

Was it @silverfox who mentioned about N Shropshire voters putting their X in the box for a Turnip, if it had a blue rosette pinned on it...? ;)
No, that was me, or more to the point a mate of mine who is actively campaigning for the Tory’s and who’s posts I have challenged on Facebook. He cane around to have a word with me last week and I brought up the point that some will vote Tory no matter what, it was he that said some would vote for a turnip with a blue rosette.
Whilst I don’t think he carries a particularly important role in the Tory’s campaign, he is no doubt one of the party faithful and made the guest list to a meeting in the area with Borris in the run up to the last election. So the question running through my mind is are his opinions of Tory voters in the area his own personal opinions or is it the opinion of those who are involved in campaigning as I’m sure they have meetings to discuss their campaign. Personally I think his opinions are counter productive, his dismissal of anyone with a different opinion as a lefty or socialist just alienate those of us who generally lean towards the conservatives but aren’t happy with things as they stand and would like to see change

At our after shoot meal in pub last night, I was quite surprised by how many die in the wool Tory’s , that said they’d vote liberal this time . Mainly because she’s a local and folks are not happy with someone bussed in from Birmingham

Heard the same from a "Cut me and I bleed Blue", type voter last weekend.

Apparently he is so totally out of his depth that the local Party will not allow him to do media interviews... Supposed to have been most uncomfortable in Drayton Smithfield! I can well imagine some difficult questions...

Better end this one I guess, drifted totally off-topic! :)

I don't think the Tories realise just how many voters in the country they are in real danger of losing permanently & could be in for a useful shock to the system next week, they are taking people for fools, their green masquerade & Bozo's scant regard for the truth have upset an awful lot of people!

Not necessarily. The money goes up with acreage but so does the bother, as the schemes are all % based. The 1000 acre farmer has got to put OM on 330 acres, instead of 33 for the 100 acre guy.

My feeling is that those who are already doing this sort of thing will take it up as its free money for them, but its not enough money to make people who operate different systems (often for very practical soil/terrain/weather based reasons) change.
Interesting that use the 1000 acre example.
Our friend Jeremy Clarkson (who has done farmers a massive favour) apparently has 1000 acres but 200-300 acres of it are in stewardship.
Go figure (as they say)
